You can leave the mother in the ACV or not, as you wish. Maybe use it to start another jug of ACV? Or put mother in a small jar of ACV or apple juice, and store it in the fridge till you want to make more (not sure how long it would last, but a couple of months at least I would think). The vinegar itself I keep in a jug in my pantry with no problems, but things are generally cooler here (especially this year!) than in Southern California, or Mass. And filtering would also be a matter of personal preference; I don't, but you might prefer to.

Very cool.

I will make some more tea this afternoon. I still need to taste the kombucha. :hide

I actually have two ACV in progress. One is done, the other just starting. I will strain the first and use the mother in a new batch of juice. I cheated last time and bought organic apple juice at the health food store. It should brew clear. Maybe if it's on sale again I will buy another.

Thanks for the help.

Now, how is that cheating? I don't have apple trees, nor know anyone who does (for scrounging ;)) so I either have to buy apples or buy apple juice. I don't consider that cheating.

Cucumbers are picking away on the counter. I only have 4 tbs of whey left. Time to go pick up some more yogurt :D

I started a batch of zucchini pickles today. Never actually made pickles before, so we'll see how they turn out!

Me "lactobacilli"
DH "and your going to eat it?"
Me "i'll scoop the mold off the top then, yes, WE will eat it."
DH "If I die, I'll haunt that Freemotion person for giving you this idea"

Pixy, my DH grumbled under his breath several times about that Freemotion person too. He kept saying, "Now who is she again and how do you know her?" I just told him she's the kitchen fairy.

Now, several months later, his ears perk up when he hears her name! Did you get another good recipe? Do I get to taste it? When will it be ready? Is it done yet? Can I have some? ...

Hee-hee-hee.....yesterday my hubby pulled a jar of moldy bean paste out of the fridge and said, "Is this good? Can I just scrape the mold off?"

You don't know what a leap that was. I usually would do the scraping when he wasn't looking and put whatever it was in a bowl so he'd never know.....hee-hee!!!

He no longer complains about the mess in the kitchen, either. I used to say, snottily, "Do you want me to cook, or don't you? Cooking creates dirty dishes! You decide! McDonald's or pot roast with gravy and pie? Which will it be?" (Hand on hip, fightin' stance :p ) Now he just loads the dishwasher and puts in his requests!
