What did you do in the garden today?

I potted up some bare root fruit trees.

It's already turning into a dry year and the stuff we call soil turns into concrete when dry. Letting the trees get some roots first and then planting them in autumn when the rain comes back will work best.

Was à fun day in the garden today, putting chicken wire around the perimeter because of evidence rabbit(s) were snacking. Rabbits seem to come in waves, some years you don't see any, then they are all over the place the following year. It must be the year of the rabbit. If I see that lil furball, he'll be in the pot, then in my belly right quick.

I was laughing when I read this. Years ago, I couldn't figure out why half a row of green beans NEVER had any beans on them. Hmmmm. We had 2x4 welded wire, chicken wire on that, then a run of 2x4 welded wire flat on the ground with some soil on top of that to discourage diggers.
At the end of the season, we saw a rabbit TUNNEL outside of the fencing flat on the ground and the exit was.. you guessed it, in the green bean patch. That little turd had tunneled probably 15' to get in there. Or, maybe to get out! But after that, he had an easy path to the smorgasbord.

I'm surprised he didn't make up stamped plans with all the details.

I have a good number of blocks that were given to me when a neighbor moved. I'm considering using them for a raised area to be able to grow some carrots, beets, etc. Mine will be on dirt, no mortar and filled with more dirt...to plant something in! Yeah, very scientifically & mathematically perfect

So --- CC is that dinner??? Nice. Meat & veggies in your garden!

Speaking of rabbits, a couple weeks ago I saw a road kill grey fox along the road as I was coming home. What was neat was that there was also the rabbit he had by his head. Guess the "family" was wondering where he was !!

I picked 3 cups of cottonwood buds today. They will be used to make Balm of Gilliad.
