Yes, I think I know how hard that is.
I held off on buying myself a new garden rake for weeks now. I finally gave in. My husband and I are the people in the family that all the others come to when they need the least little thing and the result is when we need our tools, we sometimes don't have them. Well my sis-n-law has neglected returning our rake for months now. And guess what....she left my brother, so how am I going to get it? So that was 22 bucks.
But we will put it to good use very soon.
Now, I don't know if anyone will think this is actually saving money, but I do. I have taken some BYC and SS advice (really extended to others, but I had read the posts and was curious) and checked out flylady. I'm only into it a week now, but I have already started being more productive and have found items that were lost....therefore, won't require replacement. I have also been putting things in bags and boxes, which I think I will try and get my oldest to tackle a garage sale (and keep all the money generated). I feel that this is an important resource......management of our time/work. If you can resist going to the store a few days and 'fly', while making do with the supplies in your house, you will see that when it becomes absolutely necessary to go to the store, you won't need quite as much goods as you otherwise would have gotten.

GREAT job Rhoda! I have started to do that too. I have been better organizing my kitchen. I'd buy certain spices thinking I was out, and then find where I had stocked up after getting home from the store and starting to put things away  I also ALWAYS use a list to shop. I can resist going to the store for weeks, it's the complainers I live with who demand store runs more often  I have to go before they break down and do it themselves though or else I'll be out a WHOLE lot more than if I had done it myself!

Wowza, did I have a great time at Goodwill today! Spent about an hour searching....told myself before going in, colorful ribbed turtlenecks, maybe a couple of long sleeve shirts for around the house (need to toss a couple of tattered ones) and pants for work (no big hopes here, I'm hard to fit....I have both a waist AND a butt! ) and always looking for short sleeved shirts for work. AND a fun item....a big men's wool sweater for a felting project. Oh, and books.

I came out of there with 4 wonderful, colorful, ribbed turtlenecks, two purple (one paisley!!!) cotton long-sleeved tops, a GORGEOUS XL men's heavy shetland wool sweater...not a purse, I gotta make a vest with this, it is too wonderful!....and a few books....most notably a cookbook called...

PIG! All pork recipes, and not afraid of fat, either!

As I was going through the checkout, I said to the older woman there....doesn't the cover of this book make you hungry? Well, turns out her daughter raises pigs, and she wrote her name and number on my receipt!

I made out like a bandit!

OOOOHHH! And got a brand-new pair of Gloria Vanderbilt pants, the kind I get at Costco for work but they haven't had lately....for $3!!

Everything except the books were half price. I also found a mug with a horse on it for 50 cents.

My sister gave me her hand-me-downs and things that don't fit her or she doesn't wear. She always has done this over the years as she likes to clothes shop and I don't go as often.

I got a ZILLION outfits. I did not spend any money but ended up with a new spring wardrobe. A few of the things really filled in some missing spots with my current clothes, such as overblouses that go perfect over a top that was great but a little too revealing and a pantsuit that matches a great top I've never been able to wear.

Most of it isn't for wearing around the farm but a few pieces are, and when I need to go somewhere I won't look so much like I got dressed from the rag bag!

I stopped in at a small town grocery store today looking for Fels Naptha--found it for 1.29--and while I was there, took a look at their milk prices. They had store brand whole milk for 3.29 per gallon. I bought a gallon (no cow) but on Saturday I had just bought a gallon of Great Value whole milk at Walmart for 4.24!!!! Always the low price my foot!!! Needless to say, I am not taking that slogan too seriously anymore!:somad

Planted 48 pepper seeds in the house for this years garden. 24 assorted hot and 24 assorted bellish. Also 12 tomato seeds to put in wall-o-waters to get an earlier crop. Pepper prices here are insane! $1 for one green, $1.89 for red, most hots not even available. We love our peppers!
