I did 4 loads of laundry at work today.
This one bothers me a little. It is not really a money saving idea, just a saving-YOU-money idea. Someone still has to pay for it. Yeah, I could plug an extension cord into my neighbor's outdoor socket and run a bunch of appliances off it, but it would be stealing his power, and I'd consider this to be the same sort of thing.

Got beans, squash and a few tomatos planted before it started to rain.

Now ready to can chicken breast I bought for $1.27 on sale; will make and can chicken broth from the timmings and also use some of the thighs bought and frozen when on sale for $.99. I love the convenience of the canned chicken.

Also decided I could do this cheaper than trying to raise meaties right now. I have some young chickens for layers and 2 laying hens. It will require some more construction =$$$ to raise meaties this year.

I love this thread and forum.

I went shopping (not really a way to save money...) I went to a thrift store first and found 2 shirts of the type I was looking for. Then headed over to JcPenney's. By shopping in Juniors, I saved more that $4 each over the Misses SALE price. (Sweet). I got exactly what I wanted and....

I saved more than I paid! (There's no way I would have paid full price. )

I ripped a pair of jeans yesterday. Rather than turning them into cutoffs, and buying a new pair, I put an iron on patch on them. I also did the same to a flannel shirt I ripped. And, I got my electric bill. The usage is down from last year at the same time, in spite of it being colder and it's down from last month by about $100! That's half of what it was for the February bill! :weee

First off, as soon as my OH leaves for work, I turn down the heat. He has it up way hotter than I do. He also leaves a ceiling fan on 24/7 because he's under the impression that it makes the house warmer, and saves us money. I've found just the opposite to be true. If I sit in the living room w/the fan on, I get cold!

As much as possible, I keep lights off as much as I can. My daughter is always leaving lights on when she leaves the house. :barnie

I've been drying my clothes outside.

I used to run my dishwasher thru both cycles. If I didn't they didn't necessarily come clean. And, I'm not about to wash my dishes b4 I stick them in the dishwasher. What I've started to do is to put just a couple of inches of water in the sink. Then, I rinse off the dishes in there, then put them in the dishwasher. They're not clean, but there's not as much stuff stuck to them. I've found that they're now clean when the cycle is done, and I haven't had to rewash a dish since I started doing this! And, I don't normally let the dishwasher go thru the dry cycle. As soon as it's done washing, I open the door. The dishes dry real quick doing this.

If I have stuff to iron, instead of doing it as needed (which I've done in the past), I try to do it all at the same time. Then, the iron only has to heat up once, instead of several times.

If I do need to use the clothes dryer, I try to do more than one load that needs the dryer. That way, the dryer is already warm when I put the 2nd load in.

I planted 4 more rows of corn, used $20 worth of coupons on my $105 worth of groceries, and cut DH and DD's hair today.
