Ok, I went to the grocery store, the one with the really good sales and usually has good prices. I knew they had sugar and flour on sale, but not how much. I brought a handfull of coupons. I only wanted to stock up on a few items, since I don't have much money.

I ended up saving $24, by buying sale items and using coupons. I paid $34. And I managed to get the good quality butter at less than the cheap generic stuff, which was also on sale. :weee
Fortunately I had 4 coupons for that brand of butter and got 4 packages.
Does anyone know if butter freezes well? Because if I can get myself to only shop for stuff that is on a good sale with coupons, I could definitely save us some money. I haven't seen a store around here that does double coupons. I used to really make a killing, when the stores had double coupons.
Butter freezes real well. I normally stock up when there's a good sale, and throw what I don't need in the freezer.

FD, butter freezes very well - and, even better, it defrosts well ;). Make sure you wrap it in something though, or it tends to start to taste *off*. I buy 4-5 lbs. of butter when I go to Trader Joe - an hour's drive away, so not so often - and put it freezer ziplocks. Since learning to keep it isolated (in the ziplocks) I haven't had any problem keeping it for months at a time. You could also wrap in aluminum foil.
Re: your comment above, about searching for unpasteurized juice for a new batch of ACV - if you still have a bit of your raw ACV you can add that to any apple juice - pasteurized or not - and it will kick start the process nicely. The unpasteurized juice is really only needed if you are starting from scratch, and need to catch the right organisms out of the air.

Thanks for that bit of info on the acv OrChick. I was under the impression that you HAD to use unpasturized. I can easily get some good apple juice around here that has been pasturized. I also saved the mother from my homemade acv. So I will get going on that project right away.

Used some coupons to buy cheap pizzas for DS and his buddies.

I also went to the library and got books I've been wanting to read, instead of buying them. Amazon is going to be losing some business...

I managed to spend $300 in a local store, and got a free ham. And, the stuff I bought was just normal stuff I'd buy anyway.

Today the feed store has a special - buy 3 bags, get $10 off. So we are stocking up - especially for the creepy meat chicks. And the higher price dog food I prefer is buy one get one free :ya

Farmer Jamie ~I got an e-mail from backyard chickens newsletter that had a purina feed challenge. If you sign up, you get a $3 off coupon for 1 bag of layena or chick feed. I don't know if you can go directly to purina's website and sign up or not. If not, pm me and I'll forward my e-mail to you if you're interested.
