Supper came from the garden tonight...fried taters, green beans, zucchini, tomato slices......and pork chops from the freezer.

The only money spent was the gas to go pick blueberries, and I got a 4qt ice cream pail full in about 2 hours...I'll probably go again after school starts to get another pail. These were washed, picked over & froze for later use......pie, muffins, pancakes/waffles, syrup, etc :drool

My younger niece needs some specialty paper for class in 3 days. So instead of getting a pack, we decided to make one.

We used the blender for old papers and add water to them. We then used some old cartolina to make it a little stiff. I laid it out on a silk screen and let it dry under the sun. Well, it was a good first try though I thought that it needs to be a little more fine to avoid the bigger chunks of paper which does not look nice.
Welcome to the family, lpierre. :clap What is the paper to be used for?

:clap I found Rubbermaid 32 trashcans from Home Depot, yesterday....marked down to under 10$ each. I bought 5. We have been trying to use them for rainwater, as our well has been running low, due to drought. Last time it rained, I had enough water...60 gallons, to do my 4 loads of wash, and hang it up on the clothesline. We just have no gutter on the whole hose, so I have to put the rain barrels in strategic areas to catch the most water. We are keeping the well water for potable use...and using rainwater and greywater for other uses. I have been using the greywaters for flushing the toilet, watering the few flower gardens I am trying to keep, and using the less dirty water on the veggie garden. All I have left are okra, corn, tomatoes and sunflowers. Trying to grow rhubarb too.
Also using the rainwater on the chickens. Mostly to hose the chicken poop off the tractor. Keeps things more sanitary for them and us. I will use rainwater for their water, if it is fresh. If not, they get well water.

Spent a little, but saved a lot. Found another nearly pair of jeans in my size at a thrift store for 5 bucks. It is a never ending battle for a scrawny guy to find decent, used jeans in my size. Feeling pretty good though, 2 pairs in less than a week for under 8 bucks. Going to try and get some bread made today. I have everything I need, and finally have the time. Need to get another batch of laundry soap made today too.

Hardly ever go to the mall only Sears for I Love Comfort shoes, I am diabetic and they are wonderful....well found the identical sandal I have been wearing to church, work and everywhere...paid 39.95 then got them for 14.99 in beige color (which I needed for the others are black and still going strong) Yea... when I entered sears there was a lady doing something at the clearance rack so I walked over...she had just marked the sleepwear pants (the ones everyone wears, lounging pants I think they call them) down from xxl size $30 and-xl- l & med. $20 -- all for $2.99 bought 8 Christmas gifts for grandchildren... 8 x 3 = 24 for 8 gifts....Yea..

asked my grocer if he had any damaged produce for my chickens, he was reducing and discarding produce at the time, I bought peaches, banannas, avacadoes, cabbage leaves, and a couple of apples for $3.00 the peaches were only brused so cut the brused part off and cut up the rest for us .... great

Lots of eating from the garden. Have dried all my herbs for the year. Tomorrow will try turning some crazy wild tart apple from a wild tree on the back of our property into applesauce. If it comes out too tart I will just use it for baking, I always replace 1/2 the oil or butter in a recipe with applesauce.

I love a real free find.

DD11 is going to spa night for the girls at the youth group of our local church. All her friends are going and the cost to me is free. We take our once a year turn bringing snacks to youth group. That is a completely worthwhile expense for what my kids gain from it.

I guess this is saving money. I got 2 new with tags, Teddy Bears. A black one and a brown one, they are about 2 feet tall. Kids have had tons of fun with them today.. They are so nice, if the kids were not with me when I got them I would have used them for christmas presents. Oh well.

I also got 2 gallons worth of floating pond plants, two varietys that I can tell. Then one type of water iris and a large plant with arrow shaped leaves. ANd when I got home to put them away I noticed a small lily pad growing at the base of the iris.. Ya what a score. I only got a tiny bit of it, that way more people could enjoy free pond plants. No reason to be mean and take it all.. Oh there was another type of plant also, have no idea what it is..

They had koi and goldfish in the pond. Im going to keep the plants seperated from my fish just in case there is eggs in it. If there may be a stray egg or two, then I may get free fish from the deal too. But I wont hold my breath for fish eggs being on them though.

Super tight budget this month. Trying to build the savings back up again after a summer long of new farm expenses. The pantry and freezers are stocked to the gills. Planning ahead and making everything we eat for everywhere we go. DH and DS took a roadtrip today to pick up some baby pigs and I made them some grilled chicken and than chilled it and made them cold chicken sandwiches with lettuce and tomato from the garden. Zucchini chocolate chips for desert., they packed drinks in the cooler. Saved probably $15.00 and their health from a drive thru.

I've been roasting a small organic turkey breast and than slicing it for their school lunches each week. By Thursday there is usually just dry little bits and pieces left. Tossed the remainder into some home made chicken broth, tossed in all sorts of leftover veggies laying around, carrots and chard from the garden. Yummmy and made with free finds homemade soup.

I'm so proud these days and working hard to plan to not spend. :)
