Worked out a trade with my neighbor today. I make her a fresh loaf of bread once a week and they will cook me some real NC bar-b-q!!!!

I'm so excited for the taste of home. We are all (she and her DH, and I) from the same area and love eastern NC bbq!
:bub
FABULOUS TRADE FOR ME!!!

Saves me from driving down there to get some.

SCORE!!!!

Date and time? Address? Is it potluck??

Well, I had a bad day, too FC, all I did to save was to get that suet rendered into tallow for a batch of soap later this week.

Found the energy for one consulting appointment and that was it. We had to put our first baby goat down today (more bills) and buried him out in the pasture. Went through a lot of tissues :hit I am fighting the urge to go out and immediately buy another one to fill the empty space in my heart. Found some cuties on craigslist. Didn't call, saved $ there.....so far.

So tomorrow I am taking the whole day to myself and am going to make cheese and try to feel productive (and justify another goat!) Since I work on Saturday, I try to take a weekday off to do stuff.

Poor FarmerChick! :hugs Sometimes it feels good to not work so hard to save money and be self sufficient. Sometimes it's good to just let it hang out and relax. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm working hard this spring on really eating out of the pantry, fridge and freezers. Spending about $30/week on groceries for basics and then forming meals around what we already have around. After all, we worked really hard to can and freeze all of it!

I stopped at the grocery store on my way home because today was the end of a BOGO on 5lb bag of potatoes - got 2 of those. Decided to walk by their meat and I found hamburger 1/2 off :ya and a little further down I came across a pack of ribeye for 1/2 off :celebrate we normally buy the really cheap need a ton of A1 kind of steak cause I won't pay a fortune for it, but 1/2 off, that's worth the splurge ocassionally. So far this week I have sold 13 dozen eggs!!!! :weee

Ah FM, I'm so sorry about your wee goat.

You can come get some bbq if you want. Gonna be doing it next month. Bring what ever you want, you'll be welcome- but would love to try some of your goats milk and cheese. :D

To deal with sadness or anxiety, I work in the house or on the property. So I had a lot of sadness, so I saved some money!

I made two batches of mozzarella, will stretch it tomorrow and see if it worked out ok. I used up six gallons of milk, yay, I can see into the fridge again! I put two more bags of ricotta into the freezer. DH suggests I learn how to make ravioli!!!! And he is already dreaming about the lasagna we will make, and actually had some ricotta on his egg sandwich tonight (ew.)

I made some Fabulous Face Cream, did not have the rose water (it was FAR too expensive) but made some lavender blossom tea and used that. It made the cream sort of grayish purplish, but I know it is natural, so that's ok! The recipe makes about a pound, that is a lot! I will mail some to my mom tomorrow, and use some to make the Natural Deoderant tomorrow, too, with baking soda and arrowroot powder.

This summer I will be collecting multiflora blossoms to scent my creams and lotions. Maybe some lilacs, too. If the mint for tea for mom grows well, I will save some for a nice foot cream for my massage practice as well.

Never quite got to the soapmaking, but got the goat's milk measured with my postal scale and put it in ice cube trays in the freezer, enough for two batches, so will keep y'all posted on that.

I unloaded several pallets from the truck that DH got to build me another spot for my compost piles so I casn rotate them. I also turned my compost pile the other day and realized there is way to much brown in there and I'm basically gonna have to turn it more often and water it more. Oh well, it's my first, live and learn.

I also started clearing part of our land. I call it "The peninsula" because it juts out onto our yard from the woods. I had origiannly set it aside for fruit trees, but it will become part of the area for the chicken moat on MEN.

I also picked up a water bath canner today. When I opened the box to inspect the contents in the store I found coupons for lids, pectin and jars and uses a couple of those.

I made beef stew from scratch.
Walked to bus stop with DS to pick up DD instead of driving.
Read: sewing machine instruction manual (some). The complete guide to easy sewing (some). Read up on fermented foods, pasturization, putting food by and saving summers bounty.

Also read about how to can, pickle and make jams and jellies.
