I tore off 15 ft from a 40ft shed(was rotting and sinking) and then used the lumber that I pulled off to frame in the new doors and windows.
I borrowed a nail gun a shingle stripper tool and a compressor.
I have a friend coming over with an excavator to dig a trench and bartered with him to get the trench dug and some rocks dug up.
I also bartered with my electrician to get all the lights and outlets put in for free.
I ordered ruff cut lumber from a local saw mill that costs 1/2 of what Home depot charges.
I am using window samples that I got for free as windows and bought 2 pre hung doors on clearance for $50.00 each. I got roof shingles that had been written of for free.
I'm working it.

You are definately workin' it bigben!

Well done!

DH just brought home some more CFL lightbulbs to replace the burned out regular ones. We are almost completely CFL.

I really like how they last! Before using them, it seemed like I was always changing lightbulbs. I was really getting tired of it.

When My wife and I bought our new house we changes all the bulbs to CFL.
We have been here a year and 7 months and haven't had to change one bulb yet.

I fought a powerful urge to go out to eat with the family. Instead, we made homemade hot fudge sundaes and read Farmer Boy together. Lovely night!

Where does one find "seconds lumber?"
Free, my local lumber yard will bundle lumber that is too knotty, the outside slabs, warped, not cut correctly, etc. into bundles the same size of their usual bundles. You can often find some decent boards in the mix for building things that don't need to look perfect. Very sturdy stuff and alot of it is oak.

Folks around here will buy them for firewood, like I did this year. I'm going to build shelves in my outbuilding and display tables for my veggie sales in my garage with some of the lumber.

We buy 2 round bales of hay at a time (that's what fits on my small dump truck) at $50 each. We went to get some this morning and there were 21 left. Before he loaded it he made us an offer. " If you take them all, I'll give them to you for $25 apiece " :drool He even offered to deliver it. Needless to say we were ecstatic, however, we had some reservations because we don't have the room to store it. Soooo he walked into his barn and drug out this HUGE industrial tarp for us to take along and said he would bring 40 or so pallets to put it on when he brought the hay. What a deal !!! :celebrate

Awesome! I sent dh to the feed store to pick up a bag of alfalfa pellets, and he came home with two torn bags, still full, for the price of one. I'll take what I can get!

Oh, and I bought some suet and ground it for rendering tomorrow. I have a little lard, too, so I will try to get my soapmaking skills back long before fall when I get all that free fat from the butcher. Ordered a case of lye, too, and talked the hardware store into a discount!

I did nothing to save money today .....

got a serious head cold and allergies. stopping me in my tracks literally. so tired......so I used the dryer yesterday and today. Forget hanging clothes, too much like work...LOL

Dinner has been boxed stuff I have in the pantry. Not great choices but "sigh"---and spent money at the movie store just to relax and watch cruddy movies...LOL

so moving slow and spending money basically....not a good thing but with all the saving I do all the time, a little let loose on the purse strings and slow down isn't bad for me at all sometimes.
