This time of year, I always spend money, but it saves money in the long run. With all the strawberries that the kids and i picked, I saved ~$50 if I had bought them, but after making jam from some, and if you figure out how much it would have cost to buy them already prefrozen at the grocery store, I saved over ~$100. It will be the same with all the raspberries,, blueberries, peaches, peas and beans, and corn.

I went to the farmers market yesterday with the kids, and I saw that rabbit was selling for $4.99/lb. I asked if rabbit was a good seller, and she said"yes" very emphatically, so that is good news to me. I have 50# of rabbit in the freezer right now, with more to be added soon. If it gets to the point where I have more rabbit than what we eat, I know there will be a market for it--for a good price. (although I will now have to figure out the cost of keeping rabbits--I haven't done that in a while).

So, while it wasn't just today, I have saved over $300 picking my own fruit and raising and butchering my own rabbits.
rabbit is yummy Miss

do you have a basic recipe for it you use mostly? just wondering if there is something new I can use it for. I have 2 whole rabbits in the freezer and would love a new way of cooking it.

thanks

my children like rabbit too--but no one likes dressing them out--so I had a friend that had rabbit and we got it from them. They also had jerky and sausage, it was really good. I cooked rabbit in the oven with seasonings or fried with gravy on it. Haven't had it in a while though

I just hung a huge load of laundry on my line. With as hot as it is here it should be dry in about 10 min. :p

I could use some of that dryness here.....sunny and warmer, but my hay is not drying fast enough. I just turned it all over, and it is completely green underneath....grrrr!

Love your signature line, Gina!

I spent some to save some.

Home depot had CFL bulbs on sale, a 4 pack for 1.85. The nice new small ones, I got 40 and 60 watt equalevent, 3 packs in all.

Oh, dh found the same deal and came home with a couple of packs! We were out of the little ones, too. Yay for us, Mackay!

I got my hay in, almost half my field, cut by hand, turned by hand, raked by hand, put on a tarp and dragged to the hay storage area...8-10 trips, running the gauntlet each time of goats who THINK they are hungry!

Hopefully we will have another dry spell and I can get the rest of the field done....and maybe a second cutting isn't too much to hope for!
