I do, and am also just very careful. But, to be honest, I value my cast iron more than the glass top stove, so am pehaps not as careful as I should be  -- But, so far (almost 9 years) all is good.

A fella sent me some artwork to spiff up my cast iron skillet article. Cool!

And for the cast iron homage from the book "hanibal" he made this "silence of the pans":

There's a bunch more too: http://www.richsoil.com/cast-iron.jsp

(just feeling excited about it and wanted to share)

We have a wok - that mother's heavy. Haven't used it in years. I can't pick it up. I also have the griddle - don't use it either. Too bad you don't live closer, Free.

Hubby has 2 dutch ovens and does stack them to cook 2 things at once. We had a yummy beef stew cooked outside a couple of evenings ago.

My mom had a deep cast iron skillet with a lid. She always used it for fried chicken and it was to die for. She's started giving her heavier skillets away because she can't lift them anymore.

I view my cast iron as my own personal weight lifting program.

If you use them everyday you maintain the ability to keep lifting them .. arthritis and all!

Good article, Paul. I've found that my Griswolds, especially, have become much more non-stick and more evenly seasoned when I started making lard and using it to grease and season them with. I also will use a metal curly scrubby to clean bad stuff, which is mostly on my Lodge skillet, and then just re-season the inside on top of the stove with lard. Lard is by far the best seasoning. Bacon grease counts as lard, too, but too yummy to waste on seasoning pans!

KC, wow, I wish I lived closer, too! It'd probably cost a fortune to ship that thing, huh?

FF, yup, it takes two hands to lift those things, and I need my dh when I use the dutch oven!

:drool Wonder what shipping would cost to West Tennessee. If you're serious, I would LOVE to have those, and GLAD to pay shipping!
