Tow of my meals today were fresh from the garden turnips, peeled, cubed, steamed, and served with salt, pepper and a generous knob of butter. I never knew a turnip could taste that good. We always had larger, fibrous ones growing up. These were like velvet.

When I came in tonight from having a very busy day, I was trying to think of something quick and easy to make for dinner. SO cooked last night, so it really was my turn to cook.
I had a little bit of pork sausage in the fridge, and wanted to use the peppers and zucchini I still have from the garden.
So I sauteed the sausage meat, chopped up the vegies along with some garlic and onions and added tomato sauce that I had canned. I cooked up some whole wheat spaghetti that FIL had brought over a few weeks ago and we had ourselves a nice wholesome dinner. We still had some cupcakes left from SO's birthday and apple sauce I made a couple of days ago.
It feels great to be able to eat so well without spending a lot of money :weee

Today I will be queen for a day!!

DH has put on a slow cooker of beef stew and there will be corn bread to go with it.Love it when DH cooks,:love

It is especially nice as Iam going over to a friends to bake Christmas cookies
This is something we are trying this year-getting together and baking, split the ingredients, split the work, split the cookies and it it a great reason to see my BFF.

So cookies are on the menu for dessert,I just hope some make it to Christmas lol

We had company for dinner, the two couples I wrote about. The wives think they eat healthy and are quite fluffy. The husbands, although both slim, eat junk at every opportunity. One hardly eats any veggies at all, ever. Can you say quadruple bypass in someone's future?

So we had a lovely salad and a huge turkey pot pie, loaded with veggies, and topped with the biscuit topping done traditional style, fermented for 24 hours. Everyone RAVED about the biscuit topping, even those husbands who "won't eat whole wheat!" It truly was to die for. I made an extra small one, a loaf pan, for us to have tomorrow night and I ended up serving that, too.

I let the "fluffies" bring dessert. Cake and cookies still in the store boxes. I was not the least bit tempted.....ok, I lie. The cake looked wonderful, so I scanned the ingredient list for anything that I would have an allergic reaction to. All I saw was chemicals and hydrogenated fats. Blech! No longer tempted. I had a hard time not curling my lip back in revulsion, actually.....

And all but one tried the goat's milk and had to admit it was delicious!

Tonight is pizza night. I will make a whole wheat crust but I am not sure if I am going to eat it. Trying to think of an alternative for myself.....maybe slice zucchini topped with sauce and cheese? Sounds interesting.

Mmmm PIZZA! WZ has a recipe for "pizza pot" remember? For my pizza fix I've been topping sliced broiled eggplant with pizza fixins.
