I suddenly didn't want to go to DD's house yesterday. But I persevered and hauled the mashed potatoes and the broc over there. I always make the gravy for her, since she used to use the little jars. I skimmed the fat and then made great gravy with a splash of this stuff that Mother always used. In a little brown bottle.

We sat down and as last year, I asked what we all were thankful for. SIL said that he'd be thankful if we didn't have to do this so he could eat. DD just looked at me. I told them I'm thankful that we all were still here, gathering together as family, and I'm thankful that my GD is thriving in her first quarter of college at Portland state.

Nobody else said anything. Sigh...

DD never keeps the carcass, so I stripped it and then brought it home in the oval disposable pan that she had cooked the turkey in. My refrig is full, so son got out a cat crate and put the pan inside. It went out on the side deck. We have lots of critters, so the crate was to prevent anyone from getting to the turkey. Its 35 outside so it was a great idea. Whats a little cat fur when one has a huge carcass to protect?
