I like rye bread but don't care for the caraway seeds in actual pumpernickel. That's the only real difference.

If I remember correctly, it was made with maslin originally. That's wheat and rye grown together as one crop. Now we just mix them for it.

pumpernickle bread i grew up with and have eaten most places does not have caraway seeds in it - they sometimes do have other grains in them that are not ground up, but instead sometimes soaked and then used and other times people just put them in and whatever happened was how you got them. rye breads or other breads sometimes had caraway seeds.

I wonder if it's a regional thing. It's always had caraway where I grew up.

I prefer the whole wheat bread with all the nuts and seeds in it. It was a special treat as a kid because it was more expensive. Harder to find now, but there is a brand that carries it here.

We had Cajun Linguine last night. Recipe calls for grilled sausage and chicken to be cut up and added to the sauce along with defrosted cooked shrimp.

I love using my grill year round. Especially for bacon. Then there’s no grease mess in the house to clean up.

we've had them once in a while called 12 grain bread. very tasty. it is rare that we buy bread as Mom bakes her simple version, it is mostly regular flour with some whole wheat flour added and also some cracked wheat for a little added texture. she also sometimes makes white bread and dinner rolls and cinamon rolls, but not very often on those as she really makes more cookies and other goodies.

a year and a half ago she said she was cutting back and no longer going to be doing as much baking and cooking. um, nope, it's just changed from cooking for some people to cooking for others instead.

this past week she's made piles of pasta salad and eight cookie sheets of cracker crunch.

it's ok with me as it does make her happy. the hard thing is for me to keep out of snacking on all the sweets.
