Where would you go????

Well are we talking fantasy here or reality? I doubt there are any islands free but wouldn't it be nice if just us SS-ers could have a monopoly on it? No one else allowed, no pesticides anywhere and raw milk sold in the cafe-lattes.

But seriously, I have thought New Zealand the most appealing after Canada (Canada being so much closer) especially since both speak English. I also have a dear dear friend in Sweden and her people were all so lovely, I think I could live among the Swedes if I could stand the socialism and learn the language.

So my picks would be:

I can't imagine leaving this country. What do you mean by "bad enough"? Civil unrest or war? That is my "bad enough" but I still wouldn't want to leave. I'd hightail it to my cabin and defend my land, myself, and my country and constitution 'til death do us part.

. Also. I wouldn't leave. Where we are moving is on a ridge with one way in and out and with like minded people along the way. My fear for too bad is over restricting laws regarding my animals and my garden and my overall way of life.

I already left a country once and came to the US. I just wish I lived further away from civilization, but I still think this is a pretty darn good country to be in. I don't see myself leaving.

I don't see myself leaving either, but I thought this was a hypothetical question, where would you go if you had to? What if, say, the USA (or whatever country you are from) became uninhabitable? I thought the OP meant the question that way.

Italy, but its just due to ancestry and interests in the area. It would be weird living in an area with rocks and stones rather than just woods though.
I shouldn't have too much trouble with the language because all the romance languages are similar and I have French speaking family and know a few Spanish speaking as well. I wouldn't mind learning another language.

I already left.

Moved to Australia. There's plenty of bush out here, and not nearly as many people as in the states. If it got bad enough, I'd take my seeds and the minimal amount of belongings (and the husband) and we'd "disappear". I don't forsee that happening in the near future, but that is why I'm trying to learn as many skills as I can. Especially on Tasmania, which is green, has plenty of water, and plenty of uninhabited countryside.

If you want to move to another country, you can't do it on a spur of the moment thing. It takes planning. We started my process 18 months before I even moved. Dunno about other cuntries, but here you don't become a citizen just because you're married to one anymore. And they'll make you jump through tons of hoops and red tape.

My US passport was 100 bucks (113 if you count the birth certificate copy), and two small pictures (bringing it to a total of 120.99.) It took them a couple weeks to send me my new passport and stuff. Also ,if you go to get a passport, get the booklet, not the card. The card is useless.

Most people in Sweden speak English (to different degrees, of course).
