Mmmmmm...breakfast! Thanks! I needed that. :: burp ::

Considering we slapped together our pens from scrounged stuff and my husband is incapable of hearing instructions when they come out of my mouth, our set up could be a lot worse. Over the last 3 years, flaws and design errors have shown themselves. The plan was to rebuild sections as time and money permitted. Of course, time is short. Having to buy a new car took care of the money.

But I obviously can't put this stuff off any longer. If I have to pick up a 2x4 and a bag of screws a week I guess that is what I will do. It might be time to put out a call on freecycle and see if anyone has some old deck parts they want me to haul off.

As for a goose...I would so love to have a goose. They are just fluffy dinosaurs and I lubs them. Africans are my favorite...but WAAYYYY to huge for my little place. I might be able to get away with a pygmy, but having to get a small goose kind of defeats the purpose.

oh hey if you need building materials - especially for pens... run dont walk to Home Depot and ask/look to see if they have a "cull" lumber bin. i've gotten amazing already cut to pen sized pieces for like $0.51 each! one time i got a mess of CEDAR planks for about $1 each. i've also gotten plywood of all sizes and shapes and those expensive laminate white shelf-stuff. most of the time i go i just hunt down the lumber manger and tell him i'm backing up the truck and is there anything else he has?

after i get the gravy done.... i've got something else for you... plz stand by.

;-)

But you dad taught you MORELS and to be responsible. A child learns ethics at home. The first time they steal something it is not something big like quail. How the parent handles that teaches the lesson. I have worked with Behavior Disordered children long enough to discover that many of them come from families where stealing is a game! Perfectly fine as long as you don't get caught. Even encouraged.

No this is a CHILD - her parents have responsibility for her whereabouts AND her actions.
Actually yeh.

My mom had me and my sister run interference so she could shop lift. When my dad caught me at it, he sat me down and quoted law. So I knew to stop at 16 when I'd get tried as an adult.

Never shoplifted once since then.

Too true. When I worked at a hardware store, we had bins of all kinds of scraps. The boy scouts usually picked it up, but anyone could.

I feel for ya. We spent a bloody fortune on coop and run and reinforcements because our neighbors dont spend a dime on theirs and let their starving dogs run free. So unfair. Neighbors kids even climbed our fences, threw rocks over the privacy fencing etc. We even have a run for our dog, so he doesnt run the yard without our being here, just to be good neighbors. And we scoop up his poo regualarly, unlike our neighbors who seem to enjoy the stinch of poo in the summer heat. :sick

DH threatened to start dumping our dogs poo over the fence at night, but I dont think neighbors would even notics. :idunno

No! Not your quail! Hubby and I were just talking about, if we decided to get back into quail, we'd come to you. NO!!!!

There was a kid over last night, and he ran around chasing our chickens, even tho he knows better. Was visitng his grandma who did our milking while we were away, and she has pigs, goats, chickens, turkeys, cows, etc.

KIDS!!!!

Found one of the missing quail! Inara was in the neighbors yard scratching for bugs :p. Zoe is still missing. She was the biggest hen too.

In other news, someone gave me a LOT of cabbage!! I chopped up 6 huge heads already, set 4aside for abi and still have a garbage bag with more in it!!! Time to look up a good kimchi recipe!

Yeah! :celebrate One is a whole lot better than none. Maybe the one bird re-penned will act as a decoy for the other one?
