I am pretty sure I know who it was....but she is 8. 10 at the most. I confronted her and her mom, grandma and great grandma. Of course they didn't see anything. Then they said "She was playing the next street over all day!". I said, "I know...that is where I live!" :tongue

I tried to be nice and let her feed the ducks some peas earlier today. She is friends with the girls that live across the street. I told that mom about the trashed pen and the missing quail too so they know this girl isn't to be trusted. Apparently she kept bugging the friends mom saying she wanted one of their chinchillas. She asked me for a bird too and I told her no. Later I had to go back to work. Hubby came home 10 minutes later. So in that 10 minutes she took a crate from one side of the yard, put it in the quail pen, tore apart my small cage in the pen. knocked over their water, threw the dustbath pan inside the hutch and ripped the netting.

There is a good chance the quail got away so I have been looking for them...but now it is getting dark. If I don't find them NOW, they will be falcon food. There will be some new locks on gates and pen fixing this weekend.

And here I was all excited I made some money selling 2 of my ducks. :he
:hugs :hugs

Sorry to hear that. Yep - locks are in order. Too bad about the little one - dontcha hate when the next generation seems like they could be worth teaching and then end up doing stupid stuff like this? Ugh. My sympathy.

So... you'd be in trouble for beating the snot out of her, right? I still think you should. I guess you'd have to blind and mute her so she couldn't tattle.

But you dad taught you MORELS and to be responsible. A child learns ethics at home. The first time they steal something it is not something big like quail. How the parent handles that teaches the lesson. I have worked with Behavior Disordered children long enough to discover that many of them come from families where stealing is a game! Perfectly fine as long as you don't get caught. Even encouraged.

No this is a CHILD - her parents have responsibility for her whereabouts AND her actions.

What a bummer. I can certainly sympathize. It's very disconcerting to know that someone came onto your property and stole something.
