    HRT advice needed

No, my cancer isn't curable, but at least it's stable. It's been just sitting there being annoying for the past few months, but at least it isn't growing! Thanks for your concern.:) My advice is to PAMPER YOURSELF! That mess at work? It will still be there. Dirty dishes? Messy catboxes? They'll...

    HRT advice needed

raro - can you tell me what "chemical menopause" is? Chemical menopause is deliberately caused menopause. I have breast cancer (strangely, it's in my bones now, but it's still breast cancer) and it feeds on estrogen. So they give me lupron shots every 3 months to shut down my ovaries, and I'm...

    baking soda for clean hair?

Never thought of diluting. I tried baking soda wash/vinegar rinse... Note to self... When rinsing with vinegar, DON'T FORGET TO KEEP YOUR EYES SHUT!!!! Sigh...wow, that stung. Baking soda felt horrible in my hair, but once it was rinsed, it felt much smoother. Vinegar rinse left my hair...

    HRT advice needed

I have chemical menopause, which is about as sudden as the surgical kind. It hits harder than the "natural" way, but think of it this way: As lousy as you might feel in the next 3 months or so, it won't get any worse! For hot flashes, I use black cohosh pills. Mine are frequent but not usually...

    fishing virgin

I'm in Virginia. Stafford County, which is an hour or so below Washington DC. I never thought I could get a license at Walmart, thanks! I knew you guys would have sensible advice. I walk in the fishing aisle at Walmart and gulp. I knew it couldn't be that hard!

    baking soda for clean hair?

All of you seem to have long hair...what about short hair?! My hair is extremely fine and short since it grew back from chemo. (picture toddler hair on a 45-year-old:rolleyes:) I wash at night, and the next day it's extremely flyaway...I hold a brush an inch above it and the hairs all...

    fishing virgin

The last time I fished, I was four years old. I am SO tired of the bland, probably ancient frozen slabs which are all I can afford in the grocery stores. My dad went fishing once in the county where I grew up in Northern Virginia, and basically said what's the point, it's all overfished and...

    Dandruff

I don't have this exact problem, but one thing I did when my daughter had it was use a flea comb...the tines are so tiny and close together that it really got rid of a LOT of flakes. Then we worked on the underlying problem. And just FYI, when I was going through chemo, I STILL had to deal...

    recycling clothes

It always makes me laugh when people say they don't sew because the cost of fabric is too high... My 9-year-old usually wears a big T-shirt to bed, but he told me last week that he wanted a "real" pair of pajamas. I wasn't about to go out to the fabric store or Walmart for p.j.s. So I went to...

    Stain removal!!! Urgent! ACKKK!

Wait...I'm really slow to pick up...I just saw you're bringing home your daughter next week?!? Wow. I'm SO happy for you!!!! As to the stain, as long as you don't put it in the dryer (which I am sure you're too smart to do anyway), you could try to dab it with any kind of soap/prewash...

puking cat -back to puking :(

Does the puke (sorry to get gross!) look digested, or just chewed a bit?

    Stain removal!!! Urgent! ACKKK!

Do you know what caused the stain? That would help in knowing what to get it out with.

puking cat -back to puking :(

My sister is the cat expert. She advises a trip to the vet because if the puking cat only had 2 babies, it is possible that there is another one or more that died in utero that could be causing problems. Kidney failure is another cause of puking, especially if there is no pattern.

How do I refill printer ink cartridges?

Just be aware that it is very messy. Once you get the hang of it, it saves you a huge amount of money. I got my kits at Walmart on clearance for five bucks...got about 4 of them, and they have lasted me years.

    organic, grass-fed

Thanks, that explains a lot. The fact that the vacuum seal was gone as well as the freezer-burned edges told me it was probably old and/or frozen for a while. That's okay, I'll give them another chance to impress me! And I will slow-cook it next time. :)

    ...

I do a lot of crocheting and knitting. Keep in mind that some yarns are easier than others to work with. I don't know what brand you have, but not all yarns are created equal. For example, I love the glossy, soft feel of Caron Simply Soft...but when you crochet with it, the crochet hook tends to...

    organic, grass-fed

Okay, many if not most of you are familiar with the whole organic and grass-fed issue, but in the suburbs it's kind of hard to get any access to anything. So I was fiddling around on the computer looking up stuff, and lo and behold, I found a co-op of farms an hour away that takes orders and...

    Wheres the beef???

I love, love, love corned beef, but boy does it NOT love me! I end up in the bathroom for a while afterwards. But I don't care, I will get it if I can! Last year, I was broken-hearted because there weren't any good deals. I am looking out for sales...I'd love to get enough frozen to eat once a...

    Canning pineapple

I did it years ago. I don't remember the specifics. I was learning to can and just bought a stupid pineapple at the grocery store, chopped it up, and canned it. Kind of stupid, really, but at least I got experience! It cans very well, kind of like canning peaches. I canned it in pineapple juice...

    Soaking seeds?

I've had real success with soaking a wet paper towel, folding it in half, and putting seeds on it, then folding it over again so the seeds are inside, and then sliding the whole square into a ziplock bag for a few days. The seeds sprout, and you can just dump them (with or without a few bits of...
