My chickens will eat some grasses but won't eliminate unless penned. I was referring to hay/leaves in a penned run and coop. Free range, won't work. Pigs will root & eat the grass, roots, etc
ETA...with what you describe, I'd say raised beds would be worthwhile for veggies.
Pigs will consume most of the hay but, you will have some they've used for bedding. It will be pretty much in tact. Chickens will scratch hay & leaves and break down into composted matter, with added fertilizer. ☺️
I have several ace here....BUT I use the stick-to-self wraps if one needed. Also, I buy at the feed store, way less $$ than same at pharm. My advantage plan lets me buy with my OTC card, too.
I love pickled beets. A qt is just a tease...😄. Ahh beet greens are good eatin'....maybe a side with coon? ;) loooong time since I've had coon.
Onions I can caramelized & just eat. Like those.
Feed chores done earlier. I had coffee and began whipping up pie filling from the sweet potatoes I cooked yesterday for these pies :drool Smells so good in here. I can hardly wait. Once baked, I'll head to town to pick up feed. They'll be cooled by time I return 😁 lunch time !!
Then...
The existing damages/losses from hurricanes is more concerning to me -- ag losses -- than tariffs. Some farm lands will be compromised for several years, or even loss to use. I buy seasonally &/or grow it. In fact, I buy limited amounts anyway. Prices are going to increase, either way...
That's a beautiful garden! I'd love mine to look that good 😁 I always seem to lose the neatness. Partly because of "time" and size. Hoping to do better.
I still have a job and the seasonal work comes at the same time as the seasonal garden planting & establishing. 🫤 Looking at ways to...
Strange. But bird flu took out some flocks a while back, so might be short stock waiting for lay age pullets.
AND -- Christmas baking is in full swing! I read some restaurants we're having a time getting eggs, not long ago. 🤷
Here, I got 3 eggs today ...15 hens. Winter vacay. 😁
5 pints turkey broth @pressure, on timer, in canner! That'll be 10 pt & 1 qt in pantry. Plus 1qt, 3 pt ckn broth. I'm done with broth🤪 -- until another big cook. Just can't waste food 🤷 But that's plenty for me!!!!
While the canner is out, think I'll prep some sweets and get more of those...
We had a week of cold, now a week of nicely warm. So it's no wind, sunny & 46* out :celebrate I took the window AC out for the winter! Since I only live in downstairs, I don't run central air! Glad that window is now down tight.😄 It's a cold magnet otherwise.
Beautiful outside. Lunch break...
Congrats @Messybun !!
@murphysranch dehydrate banana slices. Yummy.
I think everyone will garden again/more. Remember pandemic? Different reason ( $ vice isolation) but it'll be a stronger effort again, IMO.
YEP, my canning lids in my canner closet 👍👍😄
I rallied yesterday and tackled the turkey recently baked. Sliced for sandwiches, chunked for "??" and carcass in pot for broth. It's simmering along. That will get strained & canned tomorrow. 👍
Pulled a stuffed pepper out of freezer this morn. That'll be dinner after I get home from work...
