    Food Storage?

Yep. Anyone can buy the stuff for personal use. No re-selling of the items. They have facilities to pack the bulk items into smaller metal cans or mylar bags, or you can just take bulk bags home.

    Food Storage?

Boyd, also want to add that if you are near an LDS home storage center, their prices for dry goods usually can't be beat. They do have a limited selection of items though. This is the pricing list for US and Canada: http://www.providentliving.org/content/display/0,11666,8133-1-4352-1,00.html...

    Earthquake experience

We keep full canning jars in boxes on shelves. It's not ideal- I'd love to have cabinets with doors that could latch shut, but we don't have those.

It pays to be friends with your local fruit growers! Peaches, cherries, apples, apricots, pears, raspberries...often they will sell seconds that the grocery stores don't want for amazing prices.

    Reducing expenses

Warning: totally unsolicited advice ahead. Feel free to ignore. I think this is something you should work out before you get married. Finances are a huge deal in marriages and if you are already sharing finances, you need to be involved more than you are now. Now I will shut up. :)

    Reducing expenses

I also think you need to see all the bills in order to effectively make saving choices. You need to get familiar with those charts and graphs and see where the money is going. How much is rent/mortgage? Utilities? Phone/internet/tv etc?
