I was in the handbell choir at church when I was 14 when the director told me I was being an a$$hole for pointing out everyone else's errors. Years later I realized it was a habit I had in other areas as well.
I will spend some time this summer watching Bones on Netflix. I'm debating whether to watch tonight....

I'm just cruising through your journal tonight Abi.... First, let me say - I love crayons....I love office supplies....and, I love hardware stores. Not those big box stores, but the little old-timey hardware stores where you could buy nails by the pound out of bins.

I always wanted to go buy my school supplies the day after school ended for the year.

Just keep talking everyone, don't mind me tiptoeing through.....

Jamie... I do have to wonder what they're so scared of. >.>

Hen, you totally have to! LOL. They even over exaggerate expressions and then explain them.

KC!! :) I worked in a smaller hardware store that had nails in bins like that. It was great.

Stupid stuff that doesn't make any logic sense. Person 1 with Objective A that is mutually exclusive to Person 2 with Objective B. The top honchos like it because "it lets the good ideas prevail", but each person also gets measured on how well they support the other person. I am not kidding. I was in a project meeting at a crucial technical junction where it was discovered through happenstance that two stakeholders had two opposite, non-co-existing goals for the project. I mumbled "Kobyashi Maru time" in a voice I thought was more quiet than it was. That earned me an hour with the boss on how to be more of a team player - not getting any advice on how to solve the loggerhead.

That is really sad.

I'm extremely good at conflict resolution. Amusingly enough. I'm really good at stepping outside of the situation, even if I'm in it, and setting emotions aside.

I can also start with the premise "everyone is right". Once you figure out how everyone is right, you can figure out what they think needs to happen :D

Don't get me wrong, most of the time, things are good. My core project team right now is pretty cool and the sponsors are great. I'm better as a facilitator, rather than one of the parties. :D

A couple of projects ago, by the end of a painful discussion, the PITA I was working with, not only contradicted himself, but began arguing for my position. I think I still have the bruise on the underside of my chin from it hitting the table.

My problem is with people like that, once I've seen the behavior, I have no trust in their judgement, in particular when they are higher in the foodchain. I need to get better at being more accepting. :D

Hate conflict, hate hate hate it. Will change the channel to avoid conflict on a stupid sitcom. Don't watch them much anymore anyway. Hate awkward situations whether they involve me or not.

;) Meanwhile ... I often get my kicks with conflict situations. That is why I like working with behavior disordered children so much. I enjoy the challenge of facing a conflict and then maneuvering around with it until I have the problem mastered. Kind of like one of your puzzles, Abi. :p

I was raised by several people that ... well let's just say they had issues. Conflict was ever present and ongoing for me as a child. I guess it just kind of feels normal for me and those coping mechanisms that got perfected by being the child of a bi-polar stand me in good stead quite often these days.

I start out with I am right, and everybody else sucks lemons... And things seem to go bad from there :/
