That does sound tasty!

Somewhere I was reading a thread about Peru and eating guinea pigs. I felt like I had to double-check that recipe to make sure it was chicken. I guess I need :smack ed :)

This might be another "Abi is going to a special hell" posts...

But why don't any of the prevention information sites for autism explain diet and sunlight? They're so big on making the mother never feel guilty that they don't help with any realistic prevention.

Make sure the dad isn't too old. It's probably his fault. Men don't feel guilty about children, so that's okay. *sarcasm*

Check family history because it's genetic, and ignore anything like other family factors that go into nurture, not nature, like diet, where they live, environmental factors.... Genetics is A component, but not THE component.

Nothing about eating good fats, avoiding chemically laden food, getting lots of sunlight for vitamin d... and there are studies linking all of these to autism, directly. If the mom is malnourished, the kid will be screwed up because it cannot correctly develop.

But in autism, suddenly this isn't going to be talked about??

I think it's a swinging too far away from only blaming the mothers for being "cold" toward the kids. While it isn't the mother's FAULT for listening to poor recommendations on diet, sunlight, exercise, etc... it's still their doing and I'm seriously annoyed it's only addressed on sites that specifically promote vitamin D, or are promoting low carb/high fat diets. As a perk of eating healthy, your kids are also less likely to get autism and other brain damage.

:somad

I understand that no one actually KNOWS about autism. But to leave out a huge factor that we all KNOW does prevent brain damage in general seems kind of neglectful.

Interesting, Abi....when I was pregnant I don't ever recall being taught or talked to about prevention of autism.

Brain damage is brain damage. All the typical things to prevent one pregnancy issue will help prevent, or at least lessen the degree of, autism.

Be intelligent in who you pick for genetics on the male side. Younger is better and don't get pregnant too old yourself.

Eat healthy, lots of fats, be sure to get all your vitamins. Although I think the pyramid is upside down so you do yourself harm following the nutritional advise of doctors.

Although I'm still also thoroughly annoyed at the "epidemic" talk. It's just that all the retards are now diagnosed autistic instead of retarded. It's a broader spectrum. *shrugs*

And I'm still mad that places are pro-chelation and other dangerous "therapies".

And I'm also in utter disbelief that anti-vaccine is still being pushed because we'd rather our children AND yours die of disease than have any more risk of autism, even though vaccines are thoroughly proven to have nothing to do with autism.

I'm just hormonal and grouchy :D I'm bloated, cranky, and hyperactive. LOL. I'm at my "moon time". If I had a uterus I'd be bleeding! Also I'm 2 cup sizes smaller at "menses" than ovulation and I'm wondering how this affects corsetry patterns.

LOL

I'm gonna go finish that darn dress and get dressed and go to my friend's house and we're going to clinical orientation today :D I have to wear my scrubs. So the wardrobe issue is resolved.

hugs for the hormonal yickyness...

and i agree, there needs to be info more readily available beyond the stuff that is out there to the general public...

lack of good diet and sunlight can cause many mentall inlleses, not only autism
and women need to be made very aware that there are plenty of things they can do themselves to help their future children.
