Is it safe to ask if everyone here is listed to donate their organs and why/why not if you are comfy answering?

I'm trying to understand why not everyone is registered to. Heck, I'm registered to and I don't really have the social mores that would dictate people be required to on a societal level.

My 3 thoughts on it are:

1 - fear of death, and admitting you can die will bring death sooner.

2 - the psychotic paranoa that says if they check donate they'll be allowed to die to be harvested

3 - people of the type of religion that actually believe their soul would be trapped in another body if that body took their organs

I can't think of any other reasons and in the case of 1, I'm still not sure why their families wouldn't donate after their death for them so that their death "has meaning" or whatever.

If it's too contraversal (I'm assuming if it weren't, everyone would be registered), lemme know and I'll remove the question LOL!

eta: the fascinating thing is that Japan is very socially mored and they are very against organ donation. Not that I trust Wikipedia much, but I've read other things agreeing with this that are more reliable.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organ_transplantation_in_Japan

well im officially an organ donor...

ecept my eyes, they can take anything they want except my eyes..i dont know why i feel this way...but its been a thing ever since i was five, i used to tell my mum at 5 years old if anything happend i wanted my "peices" to go to children...but they cant have my eyes...

but...
its unlikely they will take some of my organs due to some health issues, my heart is pretty much shot (i have a rando arythmia that cant be ficed it also beats too hard and too fast which has added quite a bit of scar tissue...
i only have 1 usable kidney, i used to get infections alot as a kid, which almost destroyed 1 kidney making it pretty useless...
spinal fluid is out, im consdered too "high risk" for menegitis (ive had and thankfully survived through 8 cases of both viral and bacterial memngitis in my adult life (and 2 viral cases in my very early teens)
i have brain damage so thats fairly useless at this point too lol.
oh and of course, my stomachs now the size of a ping ping ball so i doubt theyll be harvesting that one...
and my uterus is shot too, i only have half of it and that half doesnt function correctly...

im also not immune to german measles which according to the dr may or may not effect my ability to donate anything....

oh and they wont use my blood because i grew up in the UK...

but bone, bone marrow, skin, lungs, 1 kidney, liver, pancreas, spleen, ect are all up for grabs lol.

my mum has an organ donation fear based on religeous context....she feels she doesnt want anything taken that woudl alter her external physical look because otherwise she might not look right in heaven and noone would recognize her when we meet her there...
my personal opinion is if such a perfect place exists it wouldnt matter what you looked like upon your death, you would be fully restored in "heaven" but she feels the way she feels and so skin, eyes, face ect is off limits, but internal stuff is all "on the list"

i belive the japanese have a similar idea about the afterlife, that you spend eternity how you whent out, so by donating organs you spend your afterlife without those organs ect...
i also belive they feel it disrespects the dead
least that is if i remember my comparative religons class right lol.

for me my only real worry is that someone woudlnt try hard enough to save me...but then i tell myself my bodys only marginably havestable as it stands so i doubt im valuable enough to risk a malpractice or wrongfull death case

I want a DNR bracelet anyway. LOL. They can let me die to harvest. Better than having the body a vegetable or worse, waking up to a really bad spinal injury. Ugh.

And that religious concept was on my list :D

I don't care if I agree with the list, I care that I understand what is on it. I think the only reason I can't agree with is just selfish. But "if my body isn't intact I can't be reincarnated" or "people won't find me in heaven"... yeh. I wouldn't want my organs donated at that point either!!

It's twisted and sometimes just plain silly.
