A fun one to try on you would be "cherokee braids" which I was taught by a friend whose mom was cherokee and she taught me their braid. It would be awesome for a costume if you ever need an indian princess costume, I've done it for little girls with dark hair for costumes and it looks awesome. It is basically just parted in half and pulled into two ponies and tied, then fishtailed for a few inches and then about four inches left loose at the bottom. Your hair would do it awesome.

I also know the french ones and backwards french but the french herringbone is my favorite fancy one, would look great with the red dress. I wish I could come and fix it for Saturday for you.
i love herringbone braids but can't do my own. I can only do a regular french braid on myself.
Those are hard ones to do on oneself. All are just a matter of practice.

Awright, come over here and sit in front of me.....

*Savingdogs takes out Abifae's current hairdo and starts combing it out and deciding which braid to try. She decides to do a backwards french aka giant corn row to get a feel for her hair.*

Your hair is thick!

*She finishes and Abifae has a cool, sophisticated look with everything drawn back loosely rather than too tight.*

Beautiful dresses Abi, I think I see a new avatar in the twirling photo!

And my fave is the batik print as well :)

(sorry to divert the hair and dresses discussion)
Thoughts on resume from the HR rep

The trend is for recruiter to overlook what used to be significant gaps in employment history, given the economic challenges the past decade. Don't volunteer or try to "fill in the gap" if you are interviewing in person and are asked for a verbal summary of your employment history.

If they do press on the gap, I think the gang here was on the right track - explain how you were working on self-improvement activities and trying to become more self-reliant. The cooking/caregiver thing WZ mentioned would be a good lead in to how you like to care for people and help them feel better, but since at that time, you had no professional training, it was a lot of "learn as you go". She said is it not as uncommon as it used to be to see gaps of time used as people "got their life together".

I think I've communicated to the HR person the gist of what we discussed and hope you get the position you deserve. Good luck!

<disclaimer> this is general advice, your mileage may vary</end disclaimer> :D

Thanks Jamie!!! :) That's great.

Thank you all :) When my sewing works, I love sewing. The other 95% of the time I throw fits, have meltdowns, decry the whole hobby, and threaten to burn down my house. *laughing*

Auties are so silly.

*sits patiently while SD braids her hair into elegance*

I somehow manage to look even younger than usual once you get me spinning around....

Oh you have no idea big sister, I have lots of pics online. I just don't post them here LOL!!!

But yeh, collecting *appropriate* pics is a good thing.

Okay. I have an etiquette question.

My youngest step sister is getting married and I was invited.

I can't stand her. I can't stand my step mom. I'm not interested in going just to feel stressed and make HER feel awkward (she will, she gets very awkward around me and so does her mom, so really my going would detract from her happy day).

Do I need to send a regrets? Or just not RSVP?

If I regret, I'll just say "that's a bit too social for my cuppa, but thank you for inviting me, I appreciate the consideration" or something like that.
