It does fit better...it's about alot more than just chickens so the subjects are varied and interesting. I love discussing simplicity and frugalness:>) I like the 'all around approach. There IS a big difference between pets and animals for self sufficient living. It is a whole world of looking at things differently.

Oh Beekissed I sooo agree! Love the way you can rant about it:>) I used to post sometimes just to stir the pot. Can't believe how far some people will go to save a chicken that should have been culled along time ago! THAT is what go me the most...some of it was just plain cruelty...put the thing out of it's misery for goodness sakes!

When it comes to people I have to keep in mind that I have never been in the position to have to let someone go like that. I do believe though that when the body is tired and has given up, there is no sense prolonging the issue with modern medicine just because you can....

My husband had to make that decision for his mother. It's a long story. She had ALS and when she got so bad that life support was needed, no one would make the decision. My FIL should have made the decision, but he looked at my husband instead and told him to do it.

If you could see the poor people that I have....in constant pain, no longer sensing anything around them but that pain, being forced to live, even while the flesh is rotting off their bones.....just because someone has "I" in every sentence when they speak....well, you would walk around as broken hearted as I have.

I don't need to walk in their shoes.... I wear their "loved one" in my heart every day and will relive those images for a life time. And it will take a life time for me to try to understand it all. :|
I would never be mentally strong enough to be a nurse...that is a job for angels:>)

So.....should we beg Nifty to consider a Blog category so we won't clog up the regular forum with our life's work? We could all post pics of where we live, what project we are doing, etc. I love seeing where people are in their own context.

good idea

blog - wow I hate that word for some reason, and is it a "real" word??--LOL-LOL

BYC is great info on chicken health etc...but I agree, too fast paced, same type of threads about dogs eating chickens, I can't handle the "an animal is more important than a human" attitude over there. I know people love pets but too radical for me..LOL

One thread I read a woman paid $300 for impacted crop vet visit...and the chicken did it a second time...and she was considering taking it to the vet again. YIKES.....being a farmer that sure wouldn't fly with me......I posted back, nicely, wow, that is alot of money for a chicken, but got no response. I guess I hit a sore spot over there...LOL

Being "Backyard" chicken they are more pets than livestock so I didn't fit in over there actually. While good care is needed for animals I am a farmer and they are livestock so over here is best for me with people who mostly eat their chickens and don't set up condos with AC for them..HA HA

But people always have a right to spend their money how they see fit, even if my fur raises up over it. :ep

Anyway, good idea! :)

Oh, definitely!! I got bored with BYC a while back and find this forum a better fit. I will tell you that all the extreme animal lovers really started to stick in my craw over there!

And just how many times can you read a thread on My Dog Killed My Chickens, or Neighbor's Dog Killed My Chickens or What Breed is this? Or, even, look at the pristine, luxurious coop that $2000 can buy for my 4 pampered, air-conditioned, diapered, saddled chickens that I can't stop hugging and loving on to the exclusion of the human race!
Would you like some Peta bread with that?
haha. I know what you mean. I said something about 2 weeks ago I said like "chickens don't have emotions they just use you for your food" There was hell to pay :p
