I get very mad at my hens sometimes! They don't know what I want them to eat and what I want them to leave alone, that is for sure! :somad

I pulled a big bunch of radish today. I don't eat them but my dad loves them. Get this... he makes a radish sandwich!!! Seriously.

I pulled weeds and threw them in to my hens, who are now in confinement until I get time / energy / motivation to clip their wings. I let the big chicks and Pat out in the yard and they are having a ball! I love chicken TV.
It looks like our 45* nights may be coming to an end, so next week at some point I am going to try introducing the store bought chicks (the 2 I bought for Yankee and she rejected them) to the great outdoors. I think they will probably be able to go in with the big chicks and Pat without a lot of hoopla.

This morning I was pulling grass out in the garden (shocking) and noticed my tomato plants are starting to need stakes. All I could think about though was BBH and OFG.... so I couldn't even keep a straight face when I told my folks I needed to stake my tomatoes.

ETA to remove reference to radish pic that isn't there :D

I am moving really slow today. I guess this back pain is going to be my new reality if I can't get a few days in a row to rest it - but that won't happen as long as I have a garden and Buford to pull around.
This day is driving me up a wall.
had to shave Buford's left shoulder where he developed a hot spot - I imagine from being wet for so long after his bath on Tuesday. Rested.

Put the bought chicks outside in the big kennel, fed the rest of the chickens and gave the rabbits some fresh oat grass and frozen water bottles. Rested.

Went to the store and bought twine and some groceries. Rested.

Staked 18 tomato plants. Sat on an old john boat in the shade of a pear tree - and rested. And as I rested I sulked over my barren garden. I think next week one morning I am going to till the back half again and just take every seed I have leftover and throw them all out on the ground and jsut wait to see what happens. Can't be any worse than now. *sigh* *pout*

While I was in the garden moving the sprinkler and setting tomato stakes, I had Buddy tied to his tie out post. I took Buford back inside and when I came out Buddy was standing at the gate, his halter hanging from the tie out post, still buckled. I guess somehow the little turd pulled it over his head. That is why I don't leave him unsupervised while tied.
On another Buddy note - I talked to my farrier yesterday about sending Buddy home with him. He will just teach him some basics (lunging, standing for grooming -which he does except his tail, he'll kick your face in- etc), pony him on trail rides, take him along to stand tied at rodeos and horse shows. We are working out how much it will cost and when I will need to pay him (all at once right off, as we go, or all at the end) - that will determine when I get to send the horse off. I have to concentrate on $$ for Rio's surgery and then also the $250-$500 for my own surgery.

Maybe that is why my garden isn't doing anything - nature knows I need to be working some overtime at work instead of getting dirt therapy.

It is DEFINITELY Monday! Up early to take Buford out, then to pick up the boys for school. On the way I found a little female yellow Lab running in the intersection - opened my door, called her and she crawled under my legs to get in the truck. Took boys and dog to McDonald's where my truck battery died, called me to dad to jump start me.
Finally got the boys to school and then spent an hour and half going door to door trying to find this little dog's home. I had my vet check her for a microchip since she didn't have a collar - no joy. Gave up, home to put her in a kennel, ...take Buford outside, feed the critters and check teh garden. Some BEAST ate the bottom out of my tomatoes!!!!! Now making "FOUND" posters hoping somebody claims this sweet girl - if not, I'll be posting "Free to Good Home"

Bless you, AL, that is just the kind of thing I used to do when I lived in town. The Lord put that little dog in your path, you know, so that it would get rescued. The doggie angels direct them to the right people. :old

Did you try placing an ad in the paper? We have a local one that prints those for free. Usually with strays I've found that someone is looking and finds you within a few hours or no one is looking. But you sound like you have done this before too.....I betcha this isn't the first time you have done this, is it my friend? :bow

:D <---- just missing the halo

This little dog belongs to someone - she is way too calm to be a throw away Lab (they act more like Rio than this girl lol). She lay down curled in a knot beside me the whole time in the truck - when I got out she sat quietly and waited; she is in good condition and evidently is crate trained, because I put her in the big wire kennel under a shade tree with a bowl of water and she got a drink and lay down to watch the chickens. Barked twice and now is just kind of hanging out.
I put an ad in our online news website (they have tens of thousands of readers and it is run by one guy!) and if nothing turns up from the signs / call to the animal control I'll try our regular paper.

You probably won't have trouble finding a home for a dog like that if you need to.

You ARE wearing a halo today, a dog hero one. But be careful, that halo tends to draw more dogs you know. The doggie angels spot it.

hehehe no.... probably won't have any trouble at all. She probably already has a home if nobody shows :D (THUS I do NOT do rescue!!! Foster cat - mine, Foster horse - mine, lost dog- ???? )

ETA my justification - she is a little yellow Lab. If nobody claims her, it is fate. ;)

Meaning she has found her home already if no owner claims her?

Very very lucky girl.
