Good for you! I'll be putting up a new gutter and some downspouts and barrels out at the farm. For some reason, the water all overflows from the gutter that's there right in front of Misty and Stormy's doors. Add this water to the clay that there, and you have a mess for a loooooong time. If I can capture this water instead, I would not only get rid of a major problem, but also be able to water at least part of the pasture when it's dry out.

Check to make sure the gutters aren't clogged with leaves or twigs or stuff - I had something clogging my gutters and it was overflowing. Once I got them cleared out, they were fine.

I was really surprised though - the barrel is almost half full already and that's with *one* night of rain!

There's no trees near the barn. I think the guy that put them up didn't have a clue as to what he was doing. He also put doors on the "stalls", and the locks don't line up. He's put doors in the main barn, and they're too long in spots. That's why I haven't asked him for any help. (He's a friend of RU's)

So, I came home from lunch with DH to find out DS invited a guest over. A long-term houseguest. A friend of his who's having issues with step-dad and he offered her a place to stay here to get on her feet. Without bothering to ask me or DH.

He did apologize to DH and I - he has a generous heart and just wanted to help her in an emergency and never even thought to consult us ahead of time.

She's 18. And no, they're not sleeping together. I just, was a little taken aback. We'll see how this works out...

First thing I did was make her take off her ridiculous boots and put on something she can walk in and then help me clear out the guest bedroom. Tomorrow, I'll take her to the vet... I mean, to the local clinic and make sure she's healthy and not pregnant or something stupid.

At least he waited until we were back in town!

Looks like the old farm has just acquired a new farm hand! The best way to find out how bad she really needs a place to stay is to put that gal to some hard use. ;) It should be good for you both!

So today's errands were:
get DS to the DMV to get a state ID card,
meet with his case handler about graduation requirements,
pick up a generator as a backup for the freezer.

Tomorrow, I get to go pick up the half-hog I ordered. Woohoo!

The generator is good price for the size - I got a 2000, which goes up to 2800 watts surge. I'm only using it for the brand-new energy-star freezer, so it should be fine. I also inventoried our emergency hardware like the campstove, flashlights, crank radio, etc.

Interesting timing given the tornado warning up north of us - first one in years apparently... we get them all the time up in MN.

ETA:
Oh, and got the 2nd rain barrel today. Just in time. The first one was full!

Heh. I did that once :) Well, I asked my dad first. Had a friend stay for weeks until the family explosion was past.

My XH did that to me once. Invited his mother to live with us until she "got on her feet". Didn't actually bother mentioning to her that *he* wasn't living with us anymore - nor did he bother telling *us* that he had done it. (SO many reasons he's "x"H.)
