you say "have" a friend.

to me it should be "had" a friend.

do you tolerate that from a "friend"? I would not allow it. but of course you must do what you think for yourself.

that is kinda not what was being said---------if your Wiccan friend took her views to infringe on others freedoms, then it is a problem. if your friend doesn't allow you to talk about your religion in front of her, or in her car, then it is her right to do that. That is not your rights being infringed on...it is your allowing yourself to be censored in her presence.

if being wiccan she said, you can not go to your church because I disapprove and you could not attend, then we have your rights being infringed.

you allow it in your life. the car ride with someone who disapproves.

The Wiccan can not stop you from your church or views at all....unless you allow that to happen in her presence.

I think you need a better friend. :) (Not b/c she is Wiccan, because she is mean.)
Agreed, ANYONE regardless of religion or lack of, that is like that needs a kick in the butt.

I agree with a lot of what you said FC, as long as there are different views and religions and people; etc - these things will happen, unfortunately.

Who's said it doesn't happen??

Of course it does, but it happens to EVERYONE sometimes, not just Christians; and to Christians one big heck of a lot less than to many other groups 'round here.

Also there is a big difference between what a private person chooses to do, versus governmental or institutional discrimination; and preventing you from praying aloud at school to me only to be a problem if they let OTHER religions pray aloud there, which I would betcha they did not either.

I have no trouble agreeing that sometimes Christianity is treated publicly in ways that either a) Christians don't like the limits on, or b) is not always in 100% strict concordance with how other religions are treated. But to call this a systematic pattern of oppression or discrimination, or to say that Christians are *especially* picked on in this country.... nope.

Several of my Wiccan friends behave like your friend. They're so used to being "prayed for" and having people try to convert them and having the very president of the United States say that they aren't fit to hold public office or contribute charitably that they tend to hold a grudge against all Christians. I'm not excusing your friend by any means, just putting it in context. I cannot tell you how many people have prayed for me to find the RIGHT path, to know God, to be saved, and have told me that I'm going to hell. They've even started on my kids now though I have not tried to lead my kids down any religious path.
And I don't even know if your ex-friend has had those experiences. Some people are just naturally obstreperous and need to have a little reality whacked upside their heads before they can learn to accept everyone.

That shows how tolerant the USA is in general. You'll never see Hijabs or crosses banned. Of course in Europe there is such an influx of Muslims that the established people are feeling that their very roots are being threatened. That's what I hear on NPR. That's my only source for that. So of cource it could be hogwash.

As a parent I would certainly have something to say if I was Christian and my child was not allowed to say a short prayer and make the sign of the cross. There's a big difference between a teacher saying a prayer to start a class and a kid blessing their meal.

How about I give you a real life comparison from personal experience and leave Google out of it???

So, please, don't tell me it doesn't happen. I have experienced it first hand.
My source is people who from and do research in Europe not google. Public Broadcasting is also a reliable source of information.

I've always liked NPR and CPR. They actually have more than just politics and when it is politics they often have reps from both sides and don't try to skew it one way or the other. I hate it when they are fund raising though.

It comes from banning Christian crosses in school yet allowing hijabs.
Great example of the group think I described earlier. One group can publicly display their religious symbols while another group has theirs repressed. If you focus on individual freedom, then it isn't a problem who wears what.
I think that this comes from an attitude that the majority ALREADY rules, so we give even more deference to minority *whatever,* culture, race, religion, gender. We are becoming very politically correct as a nation to accept and allow minority symbols, but not those of the majority, ruling class.

Just saying.

Wow, Aly! I can't imagine going to school somewhere like that! I know it happens, as I read about it in the news all the time, but it never has happened to me and mine, personally. Thank God! ;)

In our schools, they respected the right that I exercised to not have my children taught about the theory of evolution and allowed my kids to have other class material on those days. A lot of folks do not realize that what teachers say is not always fact, so I did a little research on my own and found out I didn't have to allow this to be taught to my children.

I guess this is the best part of living rural, the teachers aren't as swayed by what is politically correct here.
