I got a phone call right after my post from BIL. My niece was about to get off of work and SIL needed to borrow my car to pick her up, so instead of cleaning out the asparagus bed more, I cleaned out the car, which really needed it with DS using it for so long. I took a bag of burnable junk out and put in the fire pile and brought recyclables in the Suburban for drop off and gathered all the loose change. Must have picked up at least $5 he had scattered all over the car. The goat got interested in what all I was doing and was sniffing around inside the car.
Well, SIL never showed up and my feet were hurting. I did a few little extra things outside and came in to call. I had a missed call from my niece. Her parents wanted her to call me, but she said when she told them, I didn't answer that I was most probably outside. Some people!!! I love her, but she is my niece, not my daughter. I mean, I wanted to play in my yard.
I was deferred to donate today....just a little on the low side.

If you lived closer to me we have a ton of babies at the farm.

I have to watch them close to make sure they don't run out of water. I have a regular gallon size waterer and I bring it filled to the top, along with a little extra. I stick my finger in the hole, when I flip it, so the basin can't fill up and I fill it with the extra water, so they have more water to last a few hours. As soon as they old enough to get out of there I will give them my 3 gallon waterer.
The stall I have my extra 2 muscovy drakes should probably be used to raise all those babies. Best I prepare that stall better. Maybe I can put one of them in a tractor until sold Saturday, kill the other and dig a labrador size grave for my glass bottles. If ducks are in, you know a mess will be involved. I can haul in some limestone too before putting them in.
One thing for sure....I want to spend about 2 days killing things before going off to FL.

Exactly my fear.
Well, its a hot one today. I was late getting lunch started, but will hopefully be right on time for supper and we can just survive on anything, in the meantime. I quickly defrosted 2 packs of turkey necks and put a little olive oil and Cajun seasonings by 11:30, then did chores for about 15 minutes and the temp was at 140F then did a couple of more things for another 5 minutes and it was up to 150F, so it reached the 'slow cooking' temp and is still rising.
Hired help not here, but probably has an excuse. BIL on the other hand......grrr. Well, I"m already soaking wet, very thirsty and needed to double on on the girls school.
I will go outside in about half hour and check the temp. I must say....this is rather interesting. Really cool if I can come up with another way to not heat up my house.

I finished up on the stove, but still in the same pot. I believe if I had put it outside by about 8 or 9AM, that it would have been ready before the shade hit the oven. It was mostly done and was still hot and cooking by the time I brought it inside.
Also, in all fairness we did have some rain clouds above. It didn't rain, but it stopped the rays from hitting some. Not all day....just off and on.
Now, I do think I would like something like a table to set it up on next time I do this. I used the top of a drum and didn't have room for the spoon, pot holder and other things.
I have my 2nd batch of soap still in the pot. I was thinking I would pour it right before I go to bed. I bought a silicon mold and cutter, which came in today. I used a chamomile soap recipe, except I didn't have the essential oil, so I doubled up with the chamomile, when I made the infusion.

I didn't pour the soap into the mold last night because I thought it needed more stirring....remembered first attempt, so I figured I'd stir this morning and then pour, well I'd need a bigger batch or the soaps will look stupid. So I will pour them in my other molds and next batch will have to be a double batch or close to it, so they can fit in my new molds.
As of yesterday, I had about 7 weak muscovy ducklings that needed to stabilize before I put with the rest, so will probably do that today, leaving me with about 18 unhatched eggs. I think its crazy that I put all those eggs on 5/6/15 and they have taken this long to hatch and didn't all hatch out within a 3 day period. Glad for the good hatch rate, but I am worried about leaving for Florida. I might buy an extra 3 gallon waterer, just for my own peace of mind. Probably should empty out the stall I will be keeping them in too, because as hard-headed as I am, I will be wanting to bury some bottles before putting them in.
Last night and night before, I was called out to visit my oldest to help drain some boils she has. Yuck. Some of them are being very difficult. I have a feeling that her first line of defense was compromised when she got this massive tattoo on her thigh and that is the area. So been trying to keep things moving along and then bandaged her up and was leaving with my little ones and the 12 year old says,"Momma look," and I go over to where she was looking at the concrete slab in front of my grandparent's (now daughter's) home and I read,"Frances." I wonder if Momma scratched that with a stick herself or if one of my grands did it.
