I've never had debt. I am the odd duck who learns from watching others.

But I do have fancy things. I made a raw silk full circle skirt! It is SUPER fancy!!!

Also, I have a ballet barre. THAT is fancy. And THREE crock pots.

*beams proudly at her fanciness*

hee hee! Of course!!! You just have to grow up the other direction. If you grow up older, your ideas of fancy get dumb.

It's kind of funny reading these posts, because we had the reverse problem. We finally had to cut ties with DH's MIL, because she kept trying to get money out of us. She was convinced that we had way more money than we needed. Example: We were buying their house from them, but MIL and FIL were living on the property with us --bad idea-- anyway, she made an appointment with a real estate lawyer because she felt that everything was too casual. When the lawyer worked out how much we still owed them, she spoke up and said that the property was worth more now than when we had originally started to pay for it, so she felt that the sales prices should be raised to reflect that??? The lawyer looked at her as if she had suddenly grown two heads!

She was constantly going on about how we should be helping DH's older sister, because she lived in a tiny 800 sq foot house with 5 children. But she CHOSE that house, and she CHOSE to have 5 children... not to mention that all 5 of her children went to Catholic school-- something we couldn't afford.

Family can be strange....

Britesea, we got the shaft on our house too by dealing with DH's parents. They tacked on an extra 15K to the bill for us, then they went to Vegas and came home broke :th People in general, are stupid stupid creatures. :old

DH's family generally think we are odd too. Just because we dont drive new cars and choose to grow vegetables. When we told them we are getting meat chickens, I think they thought we lost our minds.

On the other hand...they have no problem taking the fresh vegetables from us. (and making a list of what we should grow for them!)

The thing that makes me a little mad though is that I dont think they realize how much work goes into producing those veggies. If we were to just walk out there every once in awhile and spray for weeds and feed them fertilizer from a bottle that would be one thing. BUT, when you are on your hands and knees pulling weeds when its 90 degrees out, and hauling chit from the animals out to the garden for fertilizer, well, thats another thing entirely!

My "new car" is a 1994 Ford Explorer :gig

It was a bit of a fixer-upper. By the time we finish with the last few things that need addressing, we will have spent $1600. If we get 2 or 3 years out of it, we will be good, but it should make it longer since we wont be putting a ton of miles on it. We usually drive less than 10,000 miles per car per year.
