I may have to.

BBrooks I must be a good chicken rancher, they are laying up a storm despite the cold temps and snow! 15 out of 16! Do you get eggs in the winter???
Yes, we get eggs, but the trick is to have new layers at the beginning of winter, and for us, to give them light inthe coop all winter.
Im suprised really!! Thats great!!
:old You need to listen more, youngin...

my three hens in my small coop are cranking out 5 eggs totals every 2 days. :D

the other coop, not as proficient, I think I have 2 slackers in there. ;)

They wouldn't lay if they were turned out? Maybe he meant that. If the dogs are loose then maybe he meant he wouldn't have any to lay if he turned them out! Sorry, just pickin'. Did you learn to skin a rabbit? Did you ever palpate the momma rabbit?
No thats coming soon though!!

I aint checking her in the area she looked bigger than usual she is getting ready to let loose I figure.......
Out of 5 hens, I average 4 eggs a day, and mine are REALLY free range.

The bantees and polish don't count though, they are pets and not made for laying. The bantee brahma is super broody though. Its hillarious watching her sit on 2-3 full grown hen eggs.

Didn't your egg production go up shortly after you started feeding your custom mix? Also, I guess I'm not in the know... where do you get grippos? Not sure I've seen them at the gas station or the grocery?

Not going to happen here, we can afford the extra feed right now, and they do provide amusement in the summer. I would have to move into the coop if I do. :hide

I used to live with that too. But I made it known to Mom that if we had any slackers they had to go I wasnt puttin up with em and she said go for it and we bought tags and we tagged them to know who they were.

Im thinking sense I culled that hen because she wasnt laying. I dont think I will have a problem with killing rabbits to eat :D

I culled two roos we "adopted" from a chicken-raising outlaw two summers ago. :D

The family was biased towards the lighter meat of the cornish X's, so they were "put off" by the darker meat. We talked about the possibility of raising Freedom Rangers this summer, but got outvoted.

The BR's have wiggled into the family's heart, I guess- and I'm not that worried about slackers right now. If I could get away with it without them realizing it, I would do it, just from a practical standpoint, but it's all good.

Yeah.....the RIRs we had last time we're terrible chickens but I restrained because we liked em. I prefer dark meat, so were doing some DP roos home hatched and some bought.....
