Count down to sell off my extra poultry!!!! Two more full days before swap day!!!
Forecast for this weekend isn't looking good, so pray that God sweeps away the rain and raises the temps for this event. If we get rained out at the swap, I have to unload birds at one of the local auctions ASAP. I can't wait to get my winter poultry housing done, but it takes getting rid of some birds first.
Only one recent bantam chick loss, though.
I just finished my final hatch of the year. My great hatch rates really declined recently, and this is the only one I got out of 2 sets of mailed eggs. It is a silver penciled rock. I'm praying for a pullet.
Here are a few pictures from the festival on Saturday. It was very muddy from Friday's rain but a very nice time with family. The little kids rode ponies and petted goats. Farm bureau even had some chickens and turkey on display. I could name each breed and estimate their ages.
Here is a unique outdoor stove they cooked chili on. At another outdoor cook pot display I bought a can of rendered lard for $1.
This is inside the old mill where they were milling wheat and corn into flour and meal.
My mama from the mill window.
Here they were squeezing out the sorghum. They grow it locally and organically just for this festival. They do 2 acres all by hand. Sounded like a big job. I should have bought some.
I love the pumpkins and gourds that were on display for sale.
Another big bill ahead as my riding mower goes off for repair today. My brother drove it into a ground hog hole and broke something in the front wheel or axle.
What great pics of the festival, Becca! I think the autumn colors are just gorgeous, too. That is some big pumpkin!
What a cute little chick. I really like that idea of using the freezer for photo shots. It really helps the bird's coloring stand out. The extended forecast now calls for good sunny weather this week-end, so hopefully you'll get some of that for the swap.
Sorry to hear about your mower - hope the repair doesn't cost too much!
