Did you get the variety of pumpkin for that "brain pumpkin"?
I didn't. I ran down into that area to snap some pictures and then had to catch up to the family. It sat among other pumpkins and gourds of different shape and colors.

Could it be this Galeux D'eysines squash? http://www.territorialseed.com/product/7278/221

Oh, I just love all those pics. Last year we got a pumpkin called "Red Warty Thing" from an Amish farm close to my granny's house. My mom roasted it in the oven and my dad had to use an ax to crack it....after it was cooked! She said it was like breaking a rock. It sure did taste good though!

I wish I had room to grow all kinds of pumpkins and squash.....maybe someday.............

What kinds of birds are you selling? I am going to the chicken swap here on saturday to try to find some replacement layers since the massacre.

Peachicks (4)
Guinea (3)
Bourbon Red turkey poults (7-8)
Turken/Naked Neck pair
BLRW pair
Black Australorp cockerels (2)
Blue/Splash Cochin LF cockerels (3)
Salmon Favorelle cockerels (3)
Various bantams, including silkie, cochin, and frizzle
maybe a couple Polish unsexed
maybe a Cuckoo Amerucana cockerel

Weather forecast is looking awfully cold and wet, though. If we can't go to the swap, I may have to end up listing them all online then taking what is left to a poultry auction on the 23rd.

That sure looks like it! I really love to grow different kinds of pumpkins. Often though, we have so much trouble with squash beetles that it is more like a war.

I would love to grow some of those next year, thanks for the link. :D

So, I took a 4-day weekend. :weee And I was with QA (Aly) every day and lived to tell about it. :th

Friday, Aly and I loaded my SUV up with lots of birds for Roger's Auction. I took 31 bantam chicks of different varieties. I loaded them in 2 boxes. Had I known the system there, I would have put them in pairs or such in small boxes and probably gotten more than $.90 each. Each box sold as a lot.

Let me just note here that I'm disappointed in these McMurray chicks. Very few were developing well, and I lost way too many to something still not known.

Also took my Turken pair, a couple cochin roos, and my 3 guinea. Why does everyone try to talk me into keeping guinea and make me feel bad for selling them? Both times I've tried them, they have driven me nuts with their high strung ways. And this batch seems to have been all males. I'd at least want some female "buckwheat" if I kept guineas.

Lastly I took my 4 peachicks, and I got more for each of them than I had advertised on BYC. :celebrate That alone made the trip worth it.

I did buy. . . ;) . . .a bag of Melrose apples, a BR turkey hen, and a Bronze tom. The BR is rather wild. She doesn't like my other turkeys and chickens in the pen where she is, so she sits up in the rafters all day and night, only coming down for the occasional nibble and drink. My Tommy sure thought she was purty, though. :D

Saturday, Aly, her DH, and I went to the Mount Hope swap. We had decided not to sell there due to cold, wet weather, so I was SHOCKED to see all the vendors and shoppers that did attend. I saw three different people trying to sell peachicks without luck, so I'm very happy with my choice to take mine to auction. There were plenty of bantams too. We were there just before noon and it was the last day, so most people were ready to make deals to offload birds. I got a very nice trio of Millie Fleur d'Uccles and 6 young KC ducks plus a white SQ call drake for a deal. My mom likes the bantams. I'll resell at least 3 of the ducks.

We did a turn through the huge (and busy) Lehman's Hardware and had a late lunch at an Amish restaurant. The economy in Amish Country appears to be alive and well. :D

While we were away, Mom cooked bean soup and cornbread, then invited Aly and family for dinner. After dinner, we played games with the kids. Did I mention Aly has very cute and well behaved kids? :thumbsup

Sunday was church, then Aly had my mom and I to lunch. Got to see and touch Job, the alpaca. He is pretty neat. Visited with First Ladies. Got to say, I still covet Miss Rachel. :love

Monday, Aly and I loaded up her stuff and some stuff for a friend for the county auction. Turned into a pretty day and the auction was well attended. I probably should have taken that Bronze tom. Might have made $2 profit off him. But I bought instead of sold. Got most of the straw I'll need for winter, some whole oats, and. . .13 little Rex bunnies.

Aly and our friend R are pulling me to the dark side. I never wanted bunnies before them, and I was never as tempted as with the Rexes. I LOVE :love their thick velvet fur. Could pet it all day. So I guess I'm keeping a few rabbits to breed. I never could butcher them. :/

Weather is looking nice this week with rain returning for the weekend. I may have to squeeze in another vacation day to get some things done at home while the sun shines. Mom wants her garage back now that the bantam brooder is shut down. :D

I'll work on getting some pictures soon.

I love Melrose apples! I wish more places up here had them.

Can't wait to see pics! You folks sure were busy and sounds like a fun week-end!

You know when we first ordered the flock and I picked the Partridge Plymouth Rock chick, I was not really impressed by anything I had seen in books or the MMH catalogue. She was really a plain looking chick too. But Rachel did turn out to be a very beautiful hen!

KJM, Becca's been trying to convince me to let her take Rachel, Mary, and Betty home with her! :ep :th

She's shameless in her conquest!!!

I noticed, Becca, that you didn't make any mention of the eye candy at the auction!! *swoons*

ETA: I may be the one to blame for all the chickens, but our friend "R" is to blame for all the rabbits!! I didn't have any rabbits until I met "R" and she gave me a trio of rabbits for some silkies......it's all her fault!

There are both black cochins and Coloumbian Wyandottes available on CL. I'm trying to decide which of the 2 I really want to breed in spring. I have 2 pairs of the CW and just 2 roos and a pullet in LF BBS cochins. :/

Hoping to take this afternoon and all tomorrow off work to winterize while the sun shines. :D Calling for highs of 70.:weee
