I took a half day Wednesday and all day Thursday as last-minute vacation to work outside while the sun was shining warmly. I probably put in a total of 16 hours of work in mowing, sweeping garage, organizing, cleaning out brooders, moving chickens around for winter quartering, throwing out trash, etc. Didn't come in until 9 pm each night.

I feel good on what I accomplished, but Mom still can't park her car in the house garage. :/ At least, though, I'm down to only 4 chicks in the house. :D

I have tagged 9 chickens to butcher. These are either old or mixed breed chickens that probably wouldn't bring me a $1 each at auction. I'd like to give it a start tomorrow afternoon, but we'll have to see how things go.

Not getting the CL cochins. Waiting to Polk's offspring. :D

But I did discover this week that my mom loves top hat and feather-footed chickens. She also enjoys having rabbits again. She and my daddy raised them in KS before I was born. So, no complaints from her on my new additions. :gig

Has Polk had more than one offspring yet? He surely is a handsome bird!

Did you know that I really didn't like cochins before I got Polk, Louisa, and Quincy? My friend Betty, who breeds cochins (as well as a few other breeds), convinced me to take them as day old chicks. I'm glad she did, as none of our eggs hatched, and Lou refused to leave the nest. Lou was a great mama to them and they were fun to raise. I think QA enjoys them, too. ;)

You sure have been busy!

Will you be raising more rabbits, then, since mom likes them?

Soggy day here, but not too cold. I'm lazy, and yes, I had 2.5 cups of coffee. :D

Need to go to the rental house and shampoo bedroom carpet, hang blinds, etc.

Should finish cleaning out my garage.

I'd rather just stay in and make some caramel apple jam (found it on BYC) and pumpkin cookies. YUM

My 6 bunnies are doing well. I try to handle a couple every day. I'll only keep 3-4 in the long run. I need to get another pen built so I can divide them later.

Still have 9 chickens pulled out for the freezer. One hen laid an egg, but I'm not sure which of the 4 she is. Probably a death row plea for mercy. ;)

Going to have some split pea soup for lunch.

You're slacking!!!!!

I'm on my third..wait, maybe my fourth?...cup of coffee. Just came in from outside. We finished patching the coop to prevent any cold wind blowing in on my chickens, and put in 1 post for the re-vamping of the chicken run. :D

I hit one of those lazy walls on Saturday and just couldn't accomplish much of anything. Should have been trying my hand at butchering. But the rental place is pretty much ready to be lived in. New carpet looks great.

Yesterday I did some shopping after church, then came home to make homemade chicken noodle soup for a friend's family that has H1N1 running through it. Mom made them a pumpkin dessert.

The trio of Millie Fleur d'Uccles I got at swap are sick. It didn't even take a week for it to show up. They've been kept away from my other birds. I don't know if they picked up something at swap or if they got if from my place, but I may lose one of the hens. And now I have a duck with a big knot of her foot. It seems it is always something. The more poultry I have, the more problems I have.

Today looks to be a nice one. Hoping to get my brother and cousin to help me move the call duck pen to a more sheltered spot for winter. Surprisingly, those little guys are giving me an egg a day. It is a small greenish egg. But I'm still having trouble finding duck egg buyers. I had a couple requests for duck eggs before I had layers. :/ Need to get a specific sign up in the yard.

I did get 2 new chicken egg customers this weekend, tough. :D

I doubt that the mille's picked up whatever that is at your place. It's very possible that it is something that lies dormant (like CRD) and the stress of being taken to the swap and then to new surroundings brought it out. Or, like you said, they could have been exposed to it at the swap and are now exhibiting the symptoms.

If you have tylan 50, see if someone on BYC knows the dosage amount for bantams.

I wish there was something I could do, like snap my fingers and make them completely healthy.

OH, and Ohio Nationals are November 14 and 15. Katie really wants to go.

I'd be free on the 14th for OH Nationals. Let's talk about plans for how to go and such.

Sorry to hear that your new birds aren't well. Such a good thing that you had them quarantined. What kind of symptoms are your Mille Fleurs showing, Becca?

Do ducks get bumblefoot?

Ohio Nationals sound fun! ;)
