You all need to change your terminology! My chickens are all preparing to go on "HOLIDAY"! :gig

Just like on Chicken Run! All of my birds are getting ready to go on a vacation to the Deep Freezer!

Busy weekend. One of those where you hardly get a chance to sit down.

Saturday, Quail_Antwerp came over with 4 kids while her DH and oldest son went hunting for youth weekend. We baked, visited a man with chicken crates for sale, and then butchered two of my old hens.

The process really wasn't too bad or too smelly. They were both small Dominiques, so the black pin feathers were a pain. I do know that I want a killing cone, because the dancing headless chicken is a real thing. :ep

I don't know when I'll get to the roosters. I could sell them to a guy for $2 each, if I need to. I think they end up as pet food going through him. But he is a good businessman, has good advice, and friendly to work with.

Set out my egg sign for the first time in a couple weeks and got a new customer who bought 2 dozen. My neighbor stopped in and took 4 dozen eggs for baking. Glad the girls have been laying well lately. :weee

Sunday was Thanksgiving dinner at church, so I did more cooking: sweet potato casserole (like dessert ;) ) and crustless pumpkin pie. Mom also fixed pots of our homegrown corn and beans.

Week is not starting so well as I woke with a sore throat, stuffy head, and plugged up ear. :( Looking forward to having a 4-day weekend, but snow is in the forecast for Thursday night.

Okay, it does sound like I did it, but I didn't want to go into all the sordid details about pumpkin pie. I'll just say the chickens really enjoyed their treat, the ducks not so much. :D

I usually use a 5 gallon bucket with my chickens. I just drop them in after I break their neck. It helps contain the flopping quite a bit.

I just bought a killing cone for the turkeys from Smith Poultry and Game Bird Supply. It was about half the price of other sources that I found. They come in several sizes.

Yeah, I dropped the first one down in the 5 gallon bucket, and it flopped the bucket over on its side. :idunno
