Turkeys, at least the lightweight girls, can still manage to fly about 4 feet up and get out of their yard even with one wing clipped. I need to extend my garden fence up 2-3 feet, but I can really afford to right now. Every night at least one turkey is roost outside the hoop house and in potential danger.
Anyhow, I doubt I'll be on here much until after Christmas. So I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful holiday with their families.
Hunkered down on this Saturday. At least 2+ inches down, roads slick, and snow still falling. None of the chickens or turkey want to be outside. My crazy ducks never seem to seek shelter and are out digging holes in the snow.
Think I'll get around to making fudge to put in family gift boxes that I have yet to get mailed.
My brother in IA got a blizzard this past week, and now my sis in MD is getting one. CRAZY!
Did we just have Christmas? It came and went so fast, but it was a nice time with friends and family. My sister couldn't come in for the holiday, so she sent gifts to spoil my mom and me.
Before Christmas, my mom got news that she will most likely be looking at hip surgery in the coming months and that a cat scan showed she has had some mini strokes that a neurologist will need to address. I hate to see her suffer in any way, but she sure can't get around like she was a year ago.
I need to figure out an Internet solution in case I need to be home with her during a work day. I couldn't make AOL work yesterday to get anywhere past my emails. I couldn't even get to the website of another dial-up provider and I couldn't go to Amazon for a late gift I need. I have another computer I could try to hook up online, but I hate to expose it to problems/viruses.
One of our dogs ran away on Tuesday, chasing after deer. After two nights gone, I gave up on seeing him again. He had never disappeared for more than an hour before when he'd gotten loose like that. But Christmas Eve afternoon one of my other dogs started barking excitedly, and I found he was back. I can't figure out where he was. His scruffy coat didn't even have one burr in it, and he wasn't really hungry or thirsty. Guess we'll never know. Hope I don't have a neighbor end up with puppies from his romp.
We had snow on the ground most all week and virtually none of my chickens would go outside. I opened the coops up for air, but I have lost a couple chickens to something. Time to go research, but there are little to no symptoms to research. :/ And the snow is back today at about 1.5 inches.
Hope everyone else had a meaningful Christmas holiday.
