I'm so darn busy surviving my daily commitments that I can't even think about working toward more self sufficiency or the possible poo hits the fan preparations. My workload at the office just took a big jump, and I'm bringing work home each night. The only way to get help is to find some skilled freelancers within a tight budget--but who has time to look?

I'm preparing spring chick orders, but then I wonder if I really want more livestock that depends on my constant care. Oh the pressure.

But daily I'm entertained by my critters and find creative outlet in them. Love those free eggs too!

A couple days ago I watched my cat (fat from sitting around in the garage while the snow has gripped our land). She and her sister had finished their supper, and she was taking her paw and pulling the scattered dry food in around the food dish. Neat freak! I laughed and laughed.

Yesterday my young dog (got her from QA :p) got out and was free all day while I was at work. My dumb turkey hens love to jump out of their yard--even with left wings clipped. I was missing a hen at headcount and found lots of feathers. Using a flashlight, I found the hen wondering between my neighbor's pines in a state of shock. She barely tried to get away from me. She had her long wing and tail feathers missing (no more white in this BR) and some breast feathers had been plucked. But I could find no wounds or blood. I put her in a dog crate overnight, but this morning she was up and calling for the flock. Some animals are just resilient like that. :clap

Well, back to the grind. :/

Wow Becca....so glad you found the hen...and she is alright. I dont work outside the home, but I know the feeling of not being able to get it all done. I too want more livestock...but I have to find an open minute of my day to care for them. Will have to see. :/

Sorry to hear your mom is having some health issues. We will keep her in our prayers...

Do you have dial up? Is dsl or cable available for a short term commitment in your area? I know when one of my friends had to work at home due to medical issues with a spouse, the company we worked for set up her internet for her at home. That way she would have access to the corporate network and attend teleconferences. It was a big help for her - especially for her peace of mind - when she was assigned to work on some projects where her participation was "critical" to the project. Good luck!

The only thing currently available is dial-up, though DSL isn't too far from us. I'm impatiently waiting and checking regularly.

I have bunnies in the oven!!! I'm pretty sure both of my rabbit does are pregnant. Probably to my gray buck. I'm looking forward to Easter babies. :D

On the stress side of things, I've been experimenting with food and finding that if I start my day out with something like an egg instead of a granola bar or bowl of oatmeal, my mind is sharper and stays on task better. Had an omelet, bacon, toast, and OJ for breakfast yesterday and felt great and got a lot of work done on the computer!

Today my breakfast was a boiled duck egg and a carton of yogurt and a cookie. :/ I'm not quite as sharp feeling today, but not too bad. I do wonder about the sugar/carb effect on me. :hit

Going to start concentrating on my diet even more in the coming weeks. Bring on the protein!

I noticed the protein connection first thing in the morning as well. Start the day with carbs or even worse sweets and my whole day is a drag. Protein in the morning gets me humming along. Even something simple like a boiled egg or some cheese makes a huge difference, but give me a big old breakfast and I am good until dinnertime and full of zip all day!

TR is hypoglycemic and he also does much better with a protein start to his day. Also some protein during the day helps keep him level and not as worn out by the end of the day.

I like to keep hard cooked eggs and cheese in the fridge at all times for a quick snack.

I have baby bunnies!!!! :D

Last night I found my Rex had her babies either Sunday or yesterday. QA and I had checked her belly Saturday. The box I use has a lid, so I had to open it to see she had the fur nest thing going. I used a carrot to pull back fur and did a rough count of 7. :woot

I thought the other rabbit had at least a week to go. I gave her the nest box last night with some straw and she went right to work. This morning there was fur in there but no babies yet that I could see. :woot

An inch of snow last night, but the rabbits are in an unheated garage.

Started my incubator last night and plan to set a few eggs to test. I have 6 duck eggs ready. ;)

Well, other rabbit had 6-7 yesterday. Hard to count without disturbing too much. All seems to be going well. :D
