Almost Self-Reliant
I'm so darn busy surviving my daily commitments that I can't even think about working toward more self sufficiency or the possible poo hits the fan preparations. My workload at the office just took a big jump, and I'm bringing work home each night. The only way to get help is to find some skilled freelancers within a tight budget--but who has time to look?
I'm preparing spring chick orders, but then I wonder if I really want more livestock that depends on my constant care. Oh the pressure.
But daily I'm entertained by my critters and find creative outlet in them. Love those free eggs too!
A couple days ago I watched my cat (fat from sitting around in the garage while the snow has gripped our land). She and her sister had finished their supper, and she was taking her paw and pulling the scattered dry food in around the food dish. Neat freak! I laughed and laughed.
Yesterday my young dog (got her from QA ) got out and was free all day while I was at work. My dumb turkey hens love to jump out of their yard--even with left wings clipped. I was missing a hen at headcount and found lots of feathers. Using a flashlight, I found the hen wondering between my neighbor's pines in a state of shock. She barely tried to get away from me. She had her long wing and tail feathers missing (no more white in this BR) and some breast feathers had been plucked. But I could find no wounds or blood. I put her in a dog crate overnight, but this morning she was up and calling for the flock. Some animals are just resilient like that.
Well, back to the grind. :/
