Tallman, thanks for the link....I think this is the same site that told me about where it is legal to sell raw milk.

Amos, I have felt like this for such a long time! As a nurse, its not a real popular stance to say that one can be TOO clean, but I definitely am not alone.

They are finding out now that antibacterial soaps kill the good bacteria on one's skin...your first line of defense against germs.

They are finding out now that, rather than being predisposed for cancer, that a family's collective, ongoing lifestyle choices and diets contribute towards failed immune systems and allows cancer~if that is what it really is~to grow and flourish.

She then took the speculum out of the freezer and started my exam......
  :gig About right!!! Free, you are always good for a laugh!!!

I also had a "farmer" tell me today that I couldn't run sheep and cattle on the same pasture..... When I asked why he couldn't really formulate a good reply but vaguely muttered something about the larvae of parasites. I informed him that their parasites were species specific and running them in the same field actually helps keep re-infestation down. That the ag university scientists were actually encouraging people to do this to help with the worm loads.

He asked me who told me that crapola? I asked him when was the last time he'd done any reading up on his chosen profession? His info was about 30 years or more out of date!

He didn't like that very well.....but his mindset could explain why he no longer has a farm! :D

Some of the old ways are still viable and great.....some not so much. I guess a person has to decide what suits their lives, monitor the outcomes and be willing to adapt their methodology in order to survive, thrive and come out ahead. :)

That link is from the Weston A. Price Foundation. Sally Fallon is the president of the foundation. Great sites. Taught me a lot. Led to goats..... and preachiness about raw milk!

JFarms, I'm glad ya like it! We have had some interesting info flow through here and every once in awhile I'll do a search on something I wanted to remember.....and find it in my own journal!

ACV?....right now I just glorp it in there until I feel good about it, but I'm sure I will get a measurement system down when making my own....much more precious and more concentrated than store bought. :D

I usually use one glorp for the chicken's water and 3 for the dogs.....and the chickens drink from the dog's bucket, so they still get the benefit from it! :p

Glorp....the glug sound that the jug makes when I tip it up and pour!

Hey, folks! Had another blessing roll my way today.....there is an old hand pump down the road from me at this old abandoned house. I've been wanting to buy it and put it on my extra, hand-dug well in case of no electric and to use on my garden in case it gets dry.

I met someone who knows those folks the other day and she asked them if I could buy it and they said.....take it! They don't want it and wouldn't think of selling the old thing!

In Lehman's, a similar pump costs $249 plus shipping.

I hope it still works and isn't all frozen up with time and rust.

What a wonderful God have I, to lay opportunities in my path each day! :weee :bow

Wow Bee, the blessings sure are flowing your way.

What a great thing for you. Most folks never think of selling anything like that until they find out someone wants it. Then they want premium prices. Better get it before they change their minds.

Question for you. As you know I took a break from the forum for a while. At that time you were talking about getting geese for the down. What happened to that idea? Is it on hold? Trashed?
You just changed your mind? I loved the thought and was just wondering if you found out something that made you not do it.

Well, I would have had to order 10 geese to make up an entire order from the hatchery....I do not want to fool with 10 geese, even to raise them up to butchering size.

Then I got real involved in preparing for sheep and am still awaiting their maturity and marketing....the guy hasn't called me yet.

THEN, of all things, this cow God is wanting me to get.  Don't ya just love it, how I can blame God for these things! :D

She and the calf are going to need some major TLC....not to mention folks lining up for milk! So, 5 or 6 am milkings, rotational grazing, gardening, canning, marketing.....not to mention my job.....will keep me too busy to contemplate anymore livestock at this time.

Anyway, since I don't have the Superhuman Strength that Quail has to juggle multiple livestock in such a short amount of time....I am aiming for maybe next year on the geese. :p Quail had offered to send me some of her first fertile eggs if I got a broody, but I needed chickens more than geese at the time, so I hatched chickens instead.

So...there ya have it, in a nutshell...er.....egg shell!
