Good morning, Bee! Have you been out to see if Blossom bloomed yet???? ;) You're up early enough, figured that would have been the first thing you did, after nearly swallowing that spider. :gig

Bee - I'd be right along with you spitting the water. EWW!!! I grew up in a garage apartment in Texas for my teenage years. I STILL have nightmares about cockroaches and waterbugs crawling around. :barnie :th

Bee, you do know that most of us have swallowed at least one spider during our sleep time. You must have missed yours last night and it was waiting on you in your water this morning.

Think of all that free protien you wasted.

Have you checked Blossom this morning?

Blossom has not popped yet but the poor thing is just miserable with that tight udder! The back of the udder, in particular, is so tight and bulging and tender if palpated. If I wasn't afraid of taking any colostrum away from the pending babe, I'd milk her out a little to relieve her discomfort. :( Poor gal! I know just how she feels! :p

Went fishing today and caught some massive trout, had spiders for lunch, got to see a beautiful place that took a million dollars or so to build, I'm sure.

The barn alone is more palatial and beautifully appointed than most expensive houses I've been in. Each horse has their own ceiling fan and the stalls constructed of cedar tongue 'N' groove, highly varnished, padded floors, cathedral ceilings, arched windows looking out upon the Blue Ridge mountains, etc.

It would take more typing than I am willing to do here to let you envision this place. Let's just say that I wouldn't mind dying and reincarnating into one of these folk's horses!

All in all, it was a peaceful, gratifying day and I came home with a load of sawdust from the stables, old horse manure, old grass clippings. :)

If you have the right person for an owner being an animal would be great. I have seen some horse folks spend more time and money on the horse than you could believe.

Then there are those "other" owners... pity the poor animals.

I can appreciate the trout - but haven't you eaten enough spiders for one day?

Well, you should see what some people spend on their dogs! :th If reincarnation is a true thing, I want to come back as a teacup chihuahua or some other insane breed that gets carried around in a purse....... :gig and be-decked in diamonds!!!

It's so true! I knew a family who I would consider the "other" owners. They had lots of pets, cats, dogs, goats, chickens, and a horse. They would spend thousands of dollars building an elaborate pen, shove the creature out there, and be done. The most they'd do is feed the thing, and that was it. When they moved, I had to go out to their old house to find their CAT they had decided not to take with them. OH, and they decided they wanted new chickens, so they killed all the older ones. Didn't eat them, or anything. We adopted one Easter Egger who magically escaped, and my dad brought home. Needless to say, I'm not friends with them anymore, and I kinda hope they're miserable because they deserve nothing more.

One of the major things that appeals to me about raising my own food is that I know where it came from and how it was treated.

As for the veggies they get good soil, compost and manure, clean water and sunshine - never any toxic chemicals.

As for my animals they have a great life. They are given loving attention, the best food, sunshine, exercise and are never without a cold clean drink. I take the extra time to chop fresh greens for my baby chicks and pull nice clover and dock for the broilers every day. I even grow sprouts for them in winter. They are always handled gently and with respect - even when they are being harvested.

I have NO PATIENCE what so ever for anyone who takes a pet or farm animal for granted!

Between my daughter, son, BIL, hubby and I we have two rescued abused POA ponies (now in their mid- 20's, an rescued cockatiel, 4 rescued cats, and 6 rescued dogs. We have also re-homed many other rescues (One of which - a tossed away pup that my daughter found hit by a car and that lost her leg from the accident - is now a therapy dog!)

One of the dogs is a darling little Shih Tzu - obviously purebred. She was found in a kennel which was thrown in a ditch by a highway. She had lived for who knows how long on her own feces and rain water. Her bangs had over grown into her eyes and she now has permanent scars on her corneas.

People can be so cruel and I know that someday they WILL reap what they have sown to the "least of these".

This is yet another reason I like it so well on this forum. We all seem to feel the same way about our animals. They are animals - not the same as people. They all still deserve good care - no matter if they are intended for pets or for food.
