So, anyway, I got called out on some sick and dying patients and was gone most of the day. Fed Blossom this morning and nothing out of the ordinary going on with her. It rained on and off all day and I've been wet most of the day, rushing here and there and dead tired by the end of the day.
OH! You guys wanted to hear about the baby??? My bad!
Got home and went to feed Blossom her ration and saw this dark little shape in the grass next to her....a bouncing baby girl, big and sturdy, lovely long lashes and sweet face all around. Looks like she had been born for some time, umby cord was pretty pale pink to white and not very moist still. She is going to be a milk chocolate color and will probably get lighter as she grows, I don't know.
Can't really gauge her wt. but I did a little heft on her to get a feel for it and I would say around 40-50 lbs? Not sure about that cause she was squirmy and it could have been more....she looks about average with the size of the Angus calves born across the road. Nice sturdy legs and body, filled out properly and has nursed well, judging from her belly and mom's udder. She's had her first poops and seems a lively little miss!
I think we will call her Rainy. Not sure about that, but she looks like a rainy to me.
I'll upload pics tomorrow, as I am on call and can't stay on here long enough to download pics on this slow ol' dial up.
Thanks to all you folks who waited with me for this blessed event.....Sweetwater Farm's first born calf. Thank the good Lord for this blessing!
She has the longest eye lashes.......
