Two questions Bee.

Has Blossom ever been allowed to keep her calf before? or do you know?

I know you said she is a beef cow cross - I can't remember if she was to be freezer beef even if she is a heifer or not?

I know I am a meany, but I am just being practical all.

She said it was gonna go for meat even if a girl, but I couldn't possibly know if I'd be able to after having that sweet thing around.

Going to keep mama, will decide in November if I am going to butcher the heifer or sell her. Depends on if she is big enough to make it worthwhile to kill her.

The boys decided her name will now be Shade! Don't even ask me why because its gross and silly! But Rainy is now Shade. Which suits her better, if you ask me and she does look like a little shady spot up there when she is lying down.

So....Shade it is. :)

Will breed back using AI in July, with Jersey straw, and see what I come up with. I'm going to put out feelers before then and see if anyone will be interested in the calf if she is a little heifer.

This calf doesn't eat much and I may contemplate putting on another calf, as she is barely making a dent in that udder. I may have to start stripping her in the evening and milking her in the morning, just to keep milk production up. If I get another calf, I may not have to go that far. Still working this out.....

Hey, FC! The last cow we had, her calf was already 3 days old when we got her, so maybe this doesn't happen later but I know I've never heard of this or witnessed it.....

Shade's stool is creamy white....looks like cottage cheese. I know her diet is milk and all, but I've never seen or heard of this. Like I said, my last calf years ago was older than this when we got her and her mama, so maybe this goes away? Is it normal? :hu

I'll try to post another one, broadside and taken at the same time. This is Shade when she is a few hours old and wet from the rain.

Shhhhhhh! Don't tell Blossom I posted this pic...she was not a bit pleased with the angle of the lens making her butt look big, and also the embarassing nostril cleaning! :p
