I think it's a great idea- Maybe call it "The Good Life Off the Grid".

I lived off grid for over a year before and there were some advantages to it. When we wanted to see the stars, we just looked up. There weren't street lights in the way of them. The sky was incredible.
Wood heat works well and watching a fire is so nice on a cold night. We used oil lamps for light at night and sometimes candlelight. That's easy enough.

I am jules too lol !!!! I just saw the pics and your place is absolutely beautiful, stunning!!! Thanks for sharing and this thread! I am learning a great deal.
Thank you! :) Not really my place, you know...just a rent-a-farm type deal. But I really like the peace and pretty of the place, for sure!

Laura, it should be showing up with a title of Off-grid living, etc. I'll post on it to pop it back to the top.

I sooooooo love the Bats in the Belfry title....might have to steal it! ;)

Guano is SUCH good fertilizer....... :gig

Sorry, guys, but I feel like a light went out in this world now that Patrick Swayze is gone...... :hit I don't get too wrapped up in Hollywood stars, by any means, but this guy was big during my growing up years, so it kind of leaves a mark on one's soul when they die. :(

You know Bee, you best get your sheep on antibiotics or your gonna loose them!

 :gig

Right after Jen gave birth her first time she grew a beard, wasn't waxy like that but I'm not expirienced in sheep and their normal hair, only their wool. Jenna's chin is normal, just extra long hairs growing out of it.

But if it fell off that easily I'd guess maybe a mole or something..? Probably just a one time spoof.

You caught that, did you? Man, them folks sure run to the medicine cabinet fast, don't they? How sad to be that dependent upon meds and vets that one can't even try to doctor their own animals. Of course, if I had registered this or that and had paid a fortune for it, I might consider vetting also.....MIGHT! Although, I can't imagine myself paying big money for a piece of paper on an animal either.....

Yes, BBH...and I yanked it right off her chin! Mean ol' mom! :p

Well, got the first of the firewood for this year. Seriously overloaded the truck~I have a sissy truck that can't handle a load~ and made it home going 40 mph over a big ol' mountain. This firewood is the seconds lumber bundles that I can get for $20 each.

It takes me three trips to get it all home, so these bundles are pretty large and the wood is very heavy. I will probably buy another one and then get the rest of my wood from the firewood ministry at our church. I kind of hate to do that because those folks seem to begrudge our getting any..... :/

We have a firewood ministry at our church and this is the one mission I will participate in wholeheartedly. Each year they have logging trucks of wood dumped behind the church, set up several log splitters, invite people from a couple of churchs and start cutting up wood. This lasts for two days.

Each year, I bring my own crew~me and the three boys~and we work like the flames of hell are licking at our heels. We work HARD! And we have a great time doing it. This year I donated $150 towards a truckload, which usually costs $300 each.

Me and two ladies from a church in DC are usually the only women who work on the wood, the rest of the ladies stay inside and arrange the food for the meals. ;)

We deliver this wood to folks all over the county who cannot get their own wood due to age, illness or low income. BUT...I've seen a few folks who have none of these reasons that get HUGE truckloads delivered because they know this or that person in the church.

Still....when we take some home from the ministry they seem to begrudge every stick.

I think it's that whole single woman thing where folks think I made my bed, now I should lie in it....no husband? no land on which to cut wood? single income? Apparently this is my own messy bed and I don't deserve help from the church with my wood.....

I take the wood home anyway. :D I take a day off work, I work hard in the hot sun, bake bread for the meals, donate money to the ministry....you can bet your bippy I will be taking wood home with me!

And you deserve every bit of it! How dare they eyeball you! Sometimes I think I would enjoy church if most of the other people would stay home. :/
