Very exciting!

I totally agree with you on the technical stuff being quite daunting. I would love to get bee's but it just seems like such a huge undertaking....I guess all that I have read has scared me off!

I will be waiting to read about your new adventure! :pop

yes I agree sometimes we wait our lives away cause we think we need this or that to start a project.

jump in, do whatever and see if it works

heck that is the best way to learn and you might come up with a simple yet perfect easy solution to handle your bees.

50% of my farm is made up projects to work for me..LOL---least amt. of money spent to get the job done!!

OMG I was just reading about beekeeping, and that was one of the recommended sites!!! Haven't been there yet, but its soooo on my to do list!

I admit, I'm scared. Hubby wants them on our new farm pretty bad, and it may turn into more his project rather than mine, but I keep thinking about all the pro's.....

*fresh honey
*helping pollinate the farm
*help the environment
*help the bee population

Oh I so can't wait to read about your adventure!!! :pop :clap :ya

If I had only known I could build my own hive from a plastic barrel, this place would look like a toxic waste dump.....barrels lining all the perimeter fencing!

I'm thinking of making my own beevail also. I bought a straw hat at a yard sale for $.25 a couple of years ago with some idea of using it one day for something....decorating, gardening(NOT a hat person) or for a scarecrow. I think it will now become my bee hat and I am attaching some netting with the draw string design.

Now for a set of bee coveralls....... :thumbsup I will look like a gov't HazMat guy out there checking my toxic waste barrels! :ep

I'm thinking it would be a cool thing to put wheels on my TP hive/barrel.....wouldn't that make it easier to move, if needed?

Heck, I could start a bee revolution here....when folks see how portable and cheap a hive one can have. This could get REAL interesting! :D

On that website for the Barefoot Beekeeper, there is an article about starting out cheap or free with bees. They didn't go into much detail but it was mostly referring to catching local swarms instead of buying nucs or packages from other beeks.

THIS is always of interest to me.....cheap or free! That should be my creedo!
