Let me tell you girls, I could not hire a cheering section like this....you give me the fortitude to actually DO this thing! :D I am waiting to start my outline and the layout of the pics until this next weekend is over.....too much going on in the ol' noggin to settle down to a big dream like this right now.

The Bat and I were really doing some dreaming this morning about what we would do if this book were to take off. There is a little, quaint old place right across the line in VA that is aching to become a small teaching farm~just the right size for two old ladies! :)

Wouldn't that be the berries? To quit my job and do a better one? Get a couple horses, train them to pull, get some horse drawn equipment and really FARM that little place! :D Sheeples, chickens, gardens, milk cow, horses, trout, hunting space, good and sweet spring water, a pond and a really ancient old house. :drool

Dace, I've posted it about 3 times on here but I'll be hanged if I can remember where.....I'll try to find it or post it again. ;)

You just needed a boost in the confidence. You have the knowledge, the experience, and the writing ability already.

That place sounds really nice. You could have different classes at the appropriate times of year for doing those activities. Then take some winter time off to write, plan and rest or have classes in homestead skills that you can do indoors.

Sounds like you two have the same dream I have. And I'm sure many others on here
Oh and don't forget, plenty of outbuildings for all those critters and maybe to house a few "interns" dorm style ;)

Got it covered! There is a newer barn on the place and we were thinking of making the loft into sleeping quarters for prospective clients. The house is 4 bedroom, potentially, and two baths.

This place has two or three ponds full of trout, a stream full of trout, level pastures, spring fed water source, woods, cellar, outhouse and the original house is a hand hewn log home built in the 1800s.

It won't come cheap, so you all will have to buy a heap of books from me........ :D

That will be on the back flyleaf....buy my book so I can quit my nursing job....puh-leeeeeeeeeeeeeazzzzzze! :gig

Honey, if I ever get rid of these passel of youngins who are not so young any more, you guys can come here to visit. Just need to kick....er...nudge some chicks out the nest! :p

They keep coming back!!! :barnie Just kiddin'...but it is a might crowded here for now. :p

I was telling the Bat about how much folks would love to come and stay, do the old fashioned stuff and learn along the way....she was amazed that folks pay to do this in some places. The world has surely become a strange place, huh? :)

So, what you're saying is, once your book is published, and you have said farm, all of us here on SS are invited to your place once or twice a year for a 'sowing/reaping' party??? :celebrate

Actually, I think it would be so cool if there were different SS farms across the USA that we could all go to, in our own region, to do just that. Then we could either journal about it here or designate a page for each region to post about what we did, and what we learned, plus pictures of all of us hanging out having fun! These farms, of course, would be run by one of us here on SS. :duc Is this too big of an idea? Crap, I think I just hijacked your thread! :he Sorry!

No way! I had the very same thought! I just need more space than I have here for all the camping trailers and tents and such. This place I want has all the level land we would need and you all would love it soooooo much.

And, of course, you guys could come any time you want! :D I plan to harvest my hay with horses and pitch it loose into wagons and then into the barn for loose storage. I explained to the Bat that this is a job that women can do, pitch hay. Those heavy bales would become a burden but loose hay wouldn't.

Oh, the dreaming we get done on this forum...... :fl

You gotta see the trout in the ponds.....HUGE! The local hatchery makes a deal to keep their broody trout there. The bald eagles come and snatch them when they can...it's a beautiful place. The guy who owns it has some financial hardships right now and so may be willing to sell, who knows?
