Getting the pup now is a really great idea. Lucy, even in her old age, will be able to teach the pup lots that he really needs to know before she passes on to the great hunting grounds beyond.

It is always interesting how the younger dog, begins to pick up the slack as the older dog gets less able. Even jittery Jake will be stepping up to the plate soon.

Oh Bee, your pup is beautifull! I have been looking for a newfie for a while now. I wish we were closer. I would take one from that litter as well. ( maybe 2 ;) ) Newfies are great protectors. Just what I need with hubby working nights.
I cant waite to see the pictorial of him growing up. :)
:hugs to you on haveing to make that decision for Lucy. Just remember, sh eis a good dog, and deserves to go peacefully. Still doesn't make it any easier. :hugs

You are right, Just....it doesn't make it any easier. I also feel some guilt about spending time with this little pup right now when she needs me too. Funny how we get into quandaries about animals, isn't it? Lucy is getting worse by the day and still I can't do it...I think I will ask my youngest son if he wants me to wait until he comes home in November. If not, I might do this before then.

Poor Jake will be completely lost. :( He is such a social and affectionate dog that he has to be touching Lucy most of the time in one way or another.

We've decided to get one of this pup's sisters to keep Dewley company and, if we aren't too attached by spring, we plan to gift her to my Uncle Jim. His wife died last Christmas and his old dog is in the same shape as mine. When she goes he will be all alone...and these dogs resemble his old dog.

We've decided to call her Darling. :D I'll post pics of them together when I can....this will make a world of difference in his little puppy life to have a playmate his own size.

Black Betty still has not popped out with a lamb but she is getting lower by the day.....a watched sheep never boils...uh..lambs! :p

The Bat made apple sauce today....it was so sweet it didn't need sugar! :)

Oh my, it took me a little while to catch up on you. Is it too soon to have another group hug.
I missed everyone very much, while I was in NY and had no computer to use. I had a great time with my family, but I would have loved to check on everyone here. And share some of my fun family moments and some of the less fun ones too.

That is the cutest pup! Oh and what about that puppy breath.

I'm glad you are back, Denise! :) Here's a big one! :hugs Welcome back!

Puppy breath smells like burnt popcorn! :sick

You know what? I'm surprised about my mother, who usually doesn't like dogs and feels like more than one is two too many....she suggested getting this extra pup and seems like she wants me to keep them! :th

Who knows? Maybe she is getting soft in her old age? :D

Denise, what did you do in NY? Anything interesting?

Bee, we had an 80th birthday bash for my father. The planning started a year ago. Dad got to invite whoever he wanted. The family paid for me to go. SO stayed here to take care of the farm. DD couldn't go because of her pregnancy from he!!. But sis and brother and their partners and DS's boys came. Then we got to see a few old friends.
Growing up my house was always a party. Good food, lots of drink, games and laughter most of the time. At least that is what other people remember. Those are good memories to hang onto and share.

Hey, did you steal my little Petey cat for your picture? How did you get him to pose on that pumkin and sit still till you got the camera? I can't get that little stinker to sit still for me for 5 seconds.

Oh, no! :D Well...I'm waiting for these questions! Oh...Sal..I think he is part Newfie instead...I'm pretty darn sure, anyway.

Denise, I read about it all in your journal and it sounded simply wonderful and I was envious about how much fun you can have with your family. I wish it were the same with mine. :/

Well, life with the pups has sure been entertaining! Smart little dogs....I don't think I've ever seen such a range of behaviours in animals so young.

I had to correct the little girl for the second time about something....both times she went immediately to her house and wouldn't come out.

This last time, she not only wouldn't come out, she almost passed up supper. She ate then she returned to her house to pout.....the darn thing was just heart-broken! She looked just like a little kid that was mad and hurt and was going to run away from home to get back at Mom.

It took me a good while to love her back to actually looking at me or snuggling again....oh, the poor pitiful me looks she can turn on are just out of this world! She would go in the corner and sit with her back to me and occasionally look over her shoulder with the saddest expression...if I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed it.

Little Dewley? He took one correction for the same behaviour and didn't test the boundaries again. Smart cookie! :)

I hope this means they will be pretty easy to train...Lucy is that sensitive and she was extremely easy to train.

Making applesauce tomorrow!!!! :weee Also making and canning chicken soup! :celebrate

Also drenching sheep, trimming hooves, feeling for a lamb~Black Betty still hasn't popped~and putting pretty new halters on the big girls.

This wood fire feels gooooooood tonight! :love

It is getting colder here as well, Bee.

I haven't fired up the stove yet, but my sweatshirt and woolie socks are feeling mighty fine tonight as well.

I think I am ready to slow down a bit for winter. Son dug sweet potatoes for me today and we ended up with 54 pounds!! :weee

How come is it that whenever you dig potatoes you always poke the tater fork through about half of them? :tongue Anyway ... I have plenty that will be needing canned! :gig
