Actually your comment about technology specifically rings true for me.
Way back when I left the public school was when most of my friendships ended. I would often call and check up on one specific friend and they had less and less to say each time, and only called back twice. After that it was always me making the effort, so I just stopped. But when I would run into him he would act as if nothing had changed, gossiping about a bunch of silly stuff, the things he had been doing, the movies he had seen. When I mentioned to invite me next time he said 'Well I would have invited you to the last couple, but you don't have a cell phone to text.' UM. HELLO? So yes, as long as there is no effort on their part everything is fine.
I think I need to find a little old lady to befriend.
