Busy, UTC, busy...... HAVE been hiding out with the sheep, though. :hide You know what? Keeping them enclosed for the winter in my old chicken run was a great idea...the place is literally paved with sheep pellets! I didn't realize how much they pooped until the snow melted....I am SO having some tall corn and plump pumpkins in that plot this year!! :D :weee

Will soon be sizing up a ram lamb for purchase to bring home to the Bettys...the girls finally get to have a little sumpin' sumpin' this spring! :D
The other day I was looking at the market bulletin and someone had a Dorper ram for sale,...$300 :ep That a good price??? Or too high??
That's the very one that I will be buying! Not too high and he is registered~which means little to me~but it means much to breeders.

This fellow also want to give me a free Great Pyr male neutered dog, 9 mo. old, as his female doesn't like him and keeps injuring him. I'm not sure about the dog but I will check him out....my older dog is getting pretty old and tired. We don't know how much longer she will around and Jake will need a companion.
Wow! Are you serious?? Isn't that something? I looked at that and thought, "That is just what Bee needs." He sounds like a nice one!

The fellow seems like a nice guy and even wanted to loan me his older ram if I couldn't afford his ram lamb.

Well Bee I am glad you are getting a good start on your sheep business. He sounds like he will be an excellent sire to your herd,...plus the girls will be so happy to have them a "boytoy".

Geez, you guys are chatty in the evenings! I had 4 pages to catch up on.
Quail, there's some weird stuff going on at your farm... You better give those animal a lecture or 2 about keepin it within the species.:gig

I made the black bean cake and...it's great! The kids loved it and really didn't even flinch when I told them what was in it. It's even better the next day - the chocolate flavor is more developed.

Good to see you have arrived home Bee :frow

Hey, does anybody know where to reach Noah? 'Cause I think I need somebody to build me an ark :p Our spring moat has made it's yearly appearance.
There's no way I can have goats here, when it floods like this there is barely room for the chickens to stay dry. We thought about trenching, but there's nowhere to send the water without affecting other people. It sucks that I have an acre of unusable land. Can't plant anything, it drowns. Can't build anything, it floods. Makes me sad :(
Can't move, won't get enough money out of this place. :hit

So on friday I was visiting the cheese production plant that my univeristy is setting up right now, and your issue with the water reminded me of that, so I'm wondering if this would be possible for you. During the summer, the water used to make the cheese can just be put out on the fields. But during the winter, the ground is already so wet that it would just run off. So they put it in a tank during the winter, and then use it to water during the summer. Would it be possible to drop a couple old drums in the ground, fill them up right now with the water, then use it to water later on in the year? Probably a hair brained scheme of mine, but the system at the cheese lab was really cool.

That would be a good solution for alot of people, but our water table is so high. The tanks would get full but then we don't really have a need to water anything. I think we have had one dry summer since we moved here. Incredible, huh? If it wasn't for our septic leach field, we could dig a pond to help.

Maybe you are trying to grow the wrong crops.

There are several bait farms near me. They raise minnows, goldfish and frogs to sell for the fishing market. Also I recently saw an ad on Craigslist for tilipia fry for stocking ponds. They even sell those crawdads for a pretty price to the bait shop! ;)

FF, that was funny  No way am I going to raise frogs and goldfish and bait. Oy, then I'd have problems with raccoons, ducks, and other wildlife. I don't eat fish either, so I would hate the work. But I do love the creativity around here :D

Boo, the smilies aren't working for me in this post. I love smilies!
