Geez, you guys are chatty in the evenings! I had 4 pages to catch up on.
Quail, there's some weird stuff going on at your farm... You better give those animal a lecture or 2 about keepin it within the species.:gig

I made the black bean cake and...it's great! The kids loved it and really didn't even flinch when I told them what was in it. It's even better the next day - the chocolate flavor is more developed.

Good to see you have arrived home Bee :frow

Hey, does anybody know where to reach Noah? 'Cause I think I need somebody to build me an ark :p Our spring moat has made it's yearly appearance.
There's no way I can have goats here, when it floods like this there is barely room for the chickens to stay dry. We thought about trenching, but there's nowhere to send the water without affecting other people. It sucks that I have an acre of unusable land. Can't plant anything, it drowns. Can't build anything, it floods. Makes me sad :(
Can't move, won't get enough money out of this place. :hit
If you can't change the acre getting/staying damp, then you need to make it an advantage. Some ideas:

-Grow some rice there or some cranberries.

-Grow some wetlands type plants that might have cash value or be good for self sufficiency. Cattails, willow, elderberry, medicinal or useful herbs...

-Turn it into a pond- that might increase the property value. If it was dug out a little deeper you could stock it with fish and have a source of food from it and a backup water supply.

-See if there are any conservation programs that will give you help in exchange for keeping it as a wetland. You might get paid or get a tax break for it.

Raise some ducks or pigs. They might like it.

I'm sure there are more options, but it's a start. (Just saw about the septic- Maybe you could dig a new pond in a nearby spot and divert that water into it? Might help if it's just in a bad spot.)

Morning, all! :caf This guest house is cozy and bright....wish it were bright outside as well. I think winter gloom has finally worn out it's welcome with me~I need some extended sunshine and green things growing. :(

Ordered seeds yesterday and hope they get here soon or it will be too late to start them inside.

Easter flowers are coming up in some places here but they are not enough to brighten the gloomy, overcast days.....anyone got a good spring pic to hang in the Guest House? :)

Awww, that's so cute! We have daffodils about ready to pop open. I think with the warm weather this week they will. Grass is greening up, clover and dandelions are appearing and the chickens are much happier. I'll send some your way Bee :)

As far as our flooding problem goes, I didn't explain it very well. It isn't wet all year round. Just in the spring after the thaw, and sometimes in summer if we have alot of rain, but it's about a foot deep in a large enough area that it's hard to fix without throwing alot of money at it. Nothing will grow there because of the too wet, then not wet enough issue. DH thinks it's fine just how it is, so that's that. I'll just put my dreams on hold. It's OK. I don't think I'm going to live here for the rest of my life.

Didn't read every post in the "guest house," but did want to say that it is good to see Bee posting again.

Sun is shining wonderfully here this morning. Hope it appears to you, Bee, today. :D

I love yours!

That is my horse "Shadow". (He has big black spots under his white fur. They sometimes call that a "ghost paint". He has two blue eyes too.) He is a pretty boy and he knows it. :p
