The thing is with a structure like this, is that I can break it down in no time at all and move it out of there. I can reuse the panels for my fencing in the spring.

I wish I had found cattle panels many years ago! And zip ties? Whoever made those are tops in my book? Wish I held the patent!

If I ever move on a place that doesn't have a chicken coop, this will be my first option. I would line the walls with hay bales though and even construct my nesting areas from hay bales....these are the places my chickens prefer to roost and lay eggs anyway...how neat to have a coop in which they can act like its their own personal barn?

Is the top also a cattle panel? I know the last time I bought them, I had to tell the guy at TSC how to load them in my truck. He didn't have a clue!

Yep! Two, in fact. They are ziptied together and give double strength to the walls of the structure.

I think I may one day even have a mini greenhouse made from these panels formed into an arc like this.

If one wanted the tarping to have more longevity, they could go with a waterproofed canvas tarp. Pricey but should last a long time.

It looks very professional. I like girlie construction, that is some thing I could do myself...maybe.

Are the panels very expensive?

Is it hard to make the arc? Do you bend them yourself?

I need a safe place for puppy to go to the potty this winter, as she probably won't learn the invisible fence til spring.

Around here, you can get the panels at TSC for around $20. And, they're fairly flexible, so they bend easily. In fact, to bring them home in a pickup, you put one end against the floor closest to the cab. Then, you pick up the other end, and bring it towards the floor where the tailgate closes. This will cause it to arch in your truck. Once you get it in place (and it's easier to do this w/2 people, use a piece of baling twine to tie it to the little hooks on the inside of the truck and close the tailgate.

To remove the cattle panels, untie the balling twine. If there's just one person to unload, be very careful! It can spring out and cut you. If there's 2 people, have one person hold one piece of baling twine while the other puts down the tailgate, then very carefully, pull the bottom towards them. The other person should hold the twine, and let it out slowly. If there's just one person, retie one piece of the baling twine, but loosely, then open the tailgate, and move the end out a bit, then undo the twine and retie it again loosely. Continue to repeat this process until the panel(s) are flat in the bed of the truck.

Sorry for your loss. I think my male cat has met his maker. I havent seen him in a week. But my big female hates other cats, she would chase the male around if he didnt stay on his side. She also chases dogs  She jumped out of a tree at one last spring. I thought I was going to bust a gut. :gig

Bee, Love that shelter! Do you have special plans for Thanksgiving? Somehow I imagine it being a very cozy and restful and full of laughter kinda day around your place.

Good morning Bee. Just stopping by to say hello. I was out for a couple of days. Love the sheep shelter. I have some panels but they are not the really long ones. Very stiff and someone bent about 10 inches along one end. Grrr!! But I still use them for everything. With Zip ties also.

sorry about your kitty!! :hugs

Have a great day.

Bee somewhere on BYC, the meat bird section I think, there is the plan for a chicken shelter very similar to your sheep, but not tall sided. It was built on a square wood frame 'foundation' with the sides made of boards on edge so they were like skids with the front and back boards off the ground a bit. They used it as a mobile pen for meat birds, then after the butchering added nest boxes built onto the frame so they moved with the pen too. They used an ATV to drag it forward as needed to fresh graze although they said 2 people could drag it manually.

Same cattle panel with tarps idea, used some no climb wire to cover the ends so they did not have to cut panels, made the door out PVC pipe frame and wire. Had issues with the younger birds escaping at first, they had to fix that in a few spots but bigger birds were fine. It's a fantastic idea to use those panels I think. Wish they were so cheap here!
