I built a temporary sheep run-in this year out of my cattle panels, just as additional lounging area for my sheep. I needed to connect my garden to the hay shed and the other garden to provide more space for the sheep this winter.....and I said to myself, "Self, why not cover part of that tunnel so that the sheep have more shelter this winter?"
So, here is a pic of the finished shelter....put together with zip ties, mind you. We've had some pretty severe winds since I put this up and it barely ruffles. I already had the cattle panels, T post and cargo netting, just bought a few tarps and some nylon rope. The rope is applied to keep the tarps from flapping...apparently sheep do not like things that flap and move in the wind.
The sheep love it, BTW! They have easy escape routes, good visual and shelter....they really like this setup.
I was thinking how easy it would be to construct a temporary greenhouse or chicken shelter out of the same materials. One could even incorporate hay/straw bales on the outside of the panel, cover with the tarp and have instant insulation. You could place roosts easily with crossbars on the fencing.
You can even construct a door with the cattle panelling....it cuts easily with a sawzaw. I have gates and hay feeders made out of cattle panels....I love the stuff!
Bee, I love your sheeple steeple, I mean shelter. I was trying to figure additional shelter for my goats, this puts ideas in my head.
I just loved that song dac. Wouldn't it be fun to travel around in a small rv or a well outfitted SUV with your dog? I really hope to be able to do that in this lifetime. I think the next best thing to traveling myself, is to have friends from all over visit me.
I loved hosting foreign winery interns. A group of them would often meet at my house for dinner, prior to going off to San Francisco or some other tourist attraction. It was such fun talking with the all.
Denise, that black kitty used his last life the other day on the highway.....
Now Spike is once more an only cat....which is really sad because he suffers so from being alone. He becomes this really dependent thing that MUST have love and petting at all times when he doesn't have a companion cat.
I'm reluctant to get him a replacement kitty after losing the last 4-5 cats on the road. We often wonder if he lures them out there and gives them a little pushy if they tick him off or he gets bored with them.....
I'd like to find a spayed, older female that is road wise instead of all these kittens that we grow attached to...its a real heartache each time some idiot hits them.
I've driven the roads constantly throughout my adult life and never hit a cat....they are quick and, if one is paying attention, you can avoid them. I think some men do it on purpose out of hatred for cats.
Oh, Bee, I am so sorry you lost that kitty. I think you are right about some people going out of their way to hit cats, especially black ones
Both our cats are black.
It's not just cats. I know when my son was little, there was a snake in the road. It was near a field. I explained to him how important snakes were to the farmers, how they helped control the rodents, etc. The person behind me swung over purposely and ran it over.
Aww, Bee. So sorry about your kitty. We lost our Kiki just over a month ago now. He just never came home.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your sheep shelter!! I too love cattle pannels. they are so versatile...and useable for so many things!
