Christmas decorations! I'm headed out for errands in a bit, getting a fresh tree included! Just had fresh cheddar brats with MyT Man for breakfast.. yum! When I get back from errands, I'm going to put on my fav. Christmas CD's really loud, have a cuppa, do the tree, and put lights on our front fence. Tomorrow I work my long shift -32 hours so I'll be here visiting quite a bit :p

Have fun processing that venison. What are your favorite ways to fix it? Do you do the roasts and then make jerky and sausage or what?

Gonna go to Lowes and eat out. So pretty much a day on the town. Then its very possible when we get back I will do some pruning and probably change out some duck straw. :)

Bee, I know you are selling your sheep out. Are you going to quit the chickens and gardening too?

I'll probably drastically reduce chickens and the garden will be much, much smaller.

Actually am removing and selling all the fencing around my big garden, I think. Although it has been quite handy in containing dogs lately..... :p

After last year's drought this property suffered some serious overuse....and it still hasn't rained enough to replenish the grasses. It has started to look like I have too many animals on too little acreage, which hasn't happened in the four years I have lived here.....just mainly due to the darn drought!

Judging from the lack of rain that we are still experiencing, I have no doubt that this next year will be worse. I just can't bear to see this lovely place looking like a denuded, barren wasteland.

The animals have got to go. Bad enough that I'll have three large dogs trampling everything down.

I'll be sowing some drought resistant grass in the garden plot and hoping it will grow from the snows and the thawing this next spring.

I did learn one thing from all of this....ya just can't farm on one acre! :/ Chickens, maybe. Rabbits even. Sheep or cows? Nope...not if you want them to live mainly on pasture.

My garden will be smaller and I don't hold out much hope for it either.....I won't be as enthusiastic this year. I'm already receiving seed catalogs and they don't thrill me one bit. Usually I've already perused them repeatedly and highlighted what I will be getting...barely glanced at them the other day.

It will be a strange spring for me.

We had a horrible drought too its still going on. But then we very well could be having the same drought, we are fairly close. I ve already gotten a few seed books too, Granny ordered some lettuce and carrot seeds for the cold frames. Im that same exact way with poultry books when they come in I pounce on them. I highlight them and wear them down thru intense page turning. Any updates on your book?

Hey Bee.... Just wanted to say hey!

Sounds like yout Thanksgiving was great! We also had a houseful of laughter and games, it was one of our most fun turkey days yet :)

I dont have the gardening bug this year either.... Usually I ache to get diggin. This year I feel like I don't even want to try container gardening, it just seems like such a waste of time. I dunno, I hope I get a spark soon because I have already had a couple people ask if I would start tomatoes for them. We'll see.

Hugs!

Hugs right back, Dace! :) Funny how that is....I would never have guessed that I would lose the gardening bug. It's gone like yesterday's worries.

I wonder what I will be doing this spring with no animals, small garden, no projects, zippo.... it sure will be weird! Maybe God will bring some wonderful new adventure into my life.... :pop

Hopefully....I lost that inclination also, I think. I had the book planned in my head and now there is nothing where it used to be. Just jumbled mess and no drive or ambition, no interest.

Hoping to get that back, as it would be kind of fun to write...I'm sure it will come to me if God wants it done. If not...I'm open to whatever He would have me do.

Bee, This year has been a year of revelations for lots of us. I lost most interest in the garden when the drought hit..and well, with the loss of our son. I have to say tho...even though I am not feeling " the drive" yet...to keep this thing going...I will keep on. I think its just a stumbling block..a test of wills...I wont let it beat me. I MUST thrive...and keep us fed..like it or not. ( some days..not) I am thinking of expanding my growing...wheat, field corn, and whatever else I can use to feed my animals. Sunflowers work well...and are so beautifull to see nodding thier big sunny yellow heads in the breeze. I am thinking of planting a huge area of just sunflowers.
like you said...God will lead us where we need to go. ( I just wish he would lead me to the winning lottery numbers) LOL
